That's exactly what I've been whining about! (Ditch Ireland and bring us the story told through French lithographs, dammit!) I totally agree! I love Tori when it's just her and the piano...

So, Carly, doesn't this song bring you right back to the ones like "Mother"?
I'm asking you, our lovely fearscape, because I think you'd get what I mean more than anyone else.

I can't decide which makes me tear up more:
"The Blue Pirouette"
or
"Black Sun Over Paris"
Sigh.
If she doesn't play this on tour I'll cry. And if she DOES play it on tour, I'll cry!
Love the "displeeeeaaasure" bit, too. Thanks, Eve.
Ok, Carly, when I said elsewhere that I was 'over' this song not being on the album, I lied. Apparently.
Because I simply cannot get over the fact that Tori would design an album with this theme of creative mothers and exploring the female power etc etc and NOT include this song. Almost all those lithographs are the biblical ones and they portray women and beauty and so many things that fit right with this album. WHY TORI, WHY? WHY DID YOU NOT PUT IT ON THE ALBUM?
THEN, there's the the whole issue that the song itself, musically, is so beautiful.... It deserves to be held by the Beekeeper! Streaming around through the orchard all by itself just isn't good enough!!!!!!! Grr.

Yikes. You guys will totally strangle me. My reactions to the visual side: "Uhh why are these pictures floating over a Windows Media Player visual equilizer?" "Scarlet's walk era pictures? What does this have to do with Garlands or the Beekeeper?" The last scene of the video: "Oh. It was a huge and elaborate ad for the book. Now it makes sense." Tori, Tori Well, at least you decided to be a good girl and not hide it in the end. So the only reason really for me to want this song to be on the actual CD is that I could listen to it without being distracted by the "ad". I really want to give the song another go, I couldn't concentrate on it at all. Nothing grabbed me melodically. Looks like I'll have to get it by some other means in order to listen to it normally... <.< >.> (old shifty eyes!) The interview was great, though! I now "understand" Mother Revolution better, and like it a lot, too!

Yes, it does bring me back to songs like "Mother." When I was ranting about how "Garlands" is the epitome of the Tori I fell madly in love with, "Mother" was the song that kept popping into my head. Ok, I'm off to go to listen to "Garlands" numerous times in a row since I was sans-Garlands all weekend...

Oh, this is achingly lovely.... Listening to it with the images and the song canvas certainly did make it a sensory experience of sorts! I loved reading Tori's lines. It felt like Tori was sitting next to me, whispering sweetly into my ear. I think maybe that is partly due to my head still floating in Piece By Piece land, but it likes it there! I am also reminded of an improv that Tori did during the On Scarlet's Walk tour called 'Black Jesus': www.deadboots.com/muzic/toonz/tori/ta2003-04-18BlackJesusimprov.mp3(Thankyou Audrey at Diagnosed Sounds) Please let me know what you think. I will give Garlands a few more listens later on too.

This might be my favorite Beekeeper song... In fact I'm pretty sure it is. I'm pretty sure it's one of my favorite Tori Amos songs of all time

I continue to be in love with this song. And if anyone doesn't like it, they can't be my friend. LOL Awww. Well, nice knowing you! (I'm not being fair towards the song, though: I have only listened to it that one time and I was too annoyed by the visuals to watch/listen to it again. If I had a DVD player of my own, then it would be different... I think I have to get an mp3 of it from somewhere so that I can concentrate on the song itself without the graphic equalizer, hehe )

I adore "Garlands". It's such a lullabye for me. Whenever I'm in that sleepy, dreamy mood, I just love to listen to songs like "Merman" and "Finn" and now, "Garlands". It's just so quietly beautiful and melodic. I love when she sings, "In winter...lovers." because she seems to talk about winter and romance as one because she's fallen in love in the snow many times as quoting to her Scarlet's Secrets CD. I also love the last line going back to the first line with "from The Winged Painter".

her most beautiful song on the beekeeper. For a long time i felt sad because I could only listen to it watching the dvd and I wish I could listen to this song on my stereo too. now, I have the original bootlegs box-set and garlands is contained on it, so I'm glad about this choice. I'm happy now also because the song has a beautiful video that shows the changing of seasons, blossoms turning to flowers and emotional landscapes and sunsets!
