Aah, I see! I know about "hidden advertising": I know I fell a victim of it when I used to see a lot of American TV-series people eating Fruity Loops which we couldn't get here. Ever since I have been CRAVING for them. Well, until a couple of years ago when I tried them and found them to be sugar insaneness, haha! So yeah, with that I can see your point: the music is pleasant, rolling along -- maybe Saab wants to buy that song from Tori to be used in their next ad if it happens, well, I'm gonna start changing opinions on her... CĂ©line Dion "sold" a song to a carmaker. A cover, what's more. I don't even remember the name of the song. That's not the role of an artist. Now if she was talking about the brand in really derogative terms, that would be different.

i really don't mind her mentioning a brand at all. i mean, this would be totally different in hip hop songs or so, but as far as tori is concerned, i don't think she would want to make a song an advertisement for a certain product.
after all, the lyrics are a result of a creative process, so why should it be wrong to choose "saab" instead of "car"? why should she restrict her artistic freedom in order NOT to mention a brand?

She could be driving a Mack truck and I'd still think this was a weak song. LOL Karl, that's super about the seats. Gave me a little happy chill to think about the possibility of Tori sitting her little body in something you had a hand in, so I'm SURE it gives you one. ;D Here's the real question this song should be raising: The lyrics say "driving in my Saab on my way to Ireland", which means you'd have to be coming from somewhere outside of Ireland, right? So like, assuming she is leaving from, say, Cornwall, where one would assume her Saab is parked, how exactly does she drive to Ireland? Wouldn't that get sort of... wet? I suppose she could be driving from UK's North Ireland to Ireland, though. Or, maybe Ireland isn't Ireland at all. She talks about New York, too. And maybe the song isn't about 'her' at all, either. I know Tori often isn't Tori at all. Hmm. Excuse me now while I try to stop laughing at the image of Tori in a Mack truck.

Oh, and Tori does say "in my Saab" in the bonus dvd. She mentions it as part of her set up for the song Cars and Guitars, I believe. Or somewhere.

Ok, this is my first reaction to it, and I haven't read anyone else's comments about it: While the mood is light-hearted and a bit folky, I have to say that the lyrics severely disapoint me. It speaks nothing of Ireland to me at all! I'm hearing things like 'a cowboy tried to lasso me' and I think I'm somewhere in Mexico recording Under The Pink!! Tori has spent time in Ireland recording, and perhaps holidaying, so I thought I'd hear a quirky Irish story, or be surrounded in imagery...I dunno. Maybe I'm being overly serious about it, but this song got me frowning and pouting!

Yep, Tori does own a Saab. After some Toriphoria research, here's what I found: (from UK Bang magazine) When was the last time you were surprised?"A couple weeks ago, Husband and I were having a bit of a... difference of opinion. We pulled into a motorway service station and he told me he'd got me something that he thought I'd like. I pulled it out, and he'd picked me out an incredible car magazine. I needed to buy a car, and he said, 'Before you make a decision, I want you to make sure you get something you want, not something everybody else think you should get'. That was a nice surprise. And because of that magazine I got a Saab convertible. It's more practical than the Land Rover - those Cornish walls kept biting my tires!"

*raises wine glass and giggles* Maybe it's a futuristic aqua Saab convertible! Hihihih! Now that would be great! I didn't think it impossible to drive from Cornwall to Ireland. After all, you can easily drive from Denmark to Finland, with the help of things called 'ferries'. I just thought there must be a ferry line between Cornwall and Ireland *shrug*

Maybe the cowboy lassos her a ferry! ROFLMAO, I'm enjoying disliking this song way too much. - Snarky Mary

hmmm... guess all points I wanted to make have been said.. except whether I like it or... it's not bad, but perhaps my least favourite on the album. It makes me think of Eurovision song contest songs and well, if it was not Tori's song, I'd be less likely to like it. Basicly the lyrics are just funny... SAAB, ok... you said it all.

I seriously laughed out loud...thanks for that one Koalapupu! Yeah, "Ireland" is my least favorite from THE BEEKEEPER without a doubt but I genuinely love every song on the album. It does kinda sound like a commercial for a Saab and the lyrics are kinda...simple? But then you have to think of Tori and say, "Maybe she wants one easy to comprehend, truly fun, light-hearted song."
