I saw all the terrible pictures in the news. I was never confronted with bush fires, but I can understand why you´re feeling bad. When the floods in Eastern Germany happened I was scared, although it was about 300 kilometres away. You can feel loss and grieving is floating thru the air and you´re sorry for all the people which have lost everything. I hope you´re safe and that the fires will be under control soon.

Feeling a bit more positive now. The feared crisis today never quite happened. The next couple of days should be better, but they're still worried about the weekend. Current forecast for Saturday is stronger winds and 37 degrees (98 or 99F).
It's really hard for the weather forecasters at the moment, because all the smoke haze is affecting the temperature and wind in ways that Canberra simply isn't used to. We normally have some of the cleanest air of any major town in the country.
Ironically enough we're also worried about rain! We're already on water restrictions, and if it rains too much in the water catchment area (most of which is burnt) then two of our four dams will be full of ash and silt and unusable for several months.

orfeo... I'm chiming in a bit late here, but just wondering.... Are the fires anywhere near close to containment yet? How are you doing? Just wanted you to know i'm thinking of you & wishing you cooler temps... and fewer winds.... and umm, no rain, i think.... and of course, some sanity. Hang in there! xoxo

Thankyou for that undeniabledilemma, once again you've successfully hit the nail on the head. By the way I love your new sig! Anyone who gives me three pictures of Gillian to look at is going to make my day on a regular basis. She is just so beautiful in those shots, especially the first two. She is THE reason for watching the X-Files. Scullycentric episodes were consistently a cut above average just because her acting is so damn wonderful. The woman can say more with a couple of expressions than most actors could manage with a whole page of dialogue. Fave episode of all is probably "Tithonus" - what's yours? whoooooo Gillian!! Oh god she is such an amazing person, let alone actress. I wanted to see her in her new play in London, but doesn't look like that's going to be happening now My favorite episode is probably Requiem..cliche yea, but I don't know..it's so wonderfully shippy.

Lookie what I just found......
Gillian Anderson, who seemed very uninterested in "The X Files" a couple of months back is now rooting for the film franchise. According to Dark Horizons, Anderson is very interested in starring in not only another film but several more "X Files" movies, saying she'd like to re-visit the character every couple of years, really establishing The X Files as an ongoing cinema concern. Might this film happen after all.

Short version: Gillian said in May that she was definately interested in doing more XF movies, but the problems now lies with David Duchovny. There was an article a few months ago saying how he wasn't interested. If there is a movie, it won't be out until at least late 2004, at best. I know Gillian is working on other movies after her play which ends this February and is writing and directing her own movie so she'll be busy. I don't know what David has been up to, so he might also be too busy to start filming another movie too. I remember reading somewhere that Chris Carter and 1013 had started the script though. I just want to see Gillian not be Scully though...she's such an amazing actress and sometimes the writers at 1013 piss me off with how they portray Scully, especially in this last season. It's why I really wanted to see Gillian's play..to see her act right in front of my face. ::crosses fingers that this one won't be deleted::

Given that I started the thread, it's not really hijacking when I bring the X-files up!
Seeing Gillian in the theatre would be SO excellent! I didn't know she was doing that.
Would you believe I never got around to seeing House of Mirth? How stupid am I, especially when the movie reviews were so positive about her performance?
Her writing and directing a movie would be fab, given that "all things" was such a good XF episode.
Um, back to local reality... all the fires are currently under reasonable control, but they're still warning us not to get complacent. Everyone's already looking ahead to the long weekend and wondering what it will be like.
We already had 5 days of total fire ban, which was a record, before this all happened (so those who say there was no warning are WRONG), but now it's been extended to a total of 11 days! Meanwhile a 15-year-old got arrested last night for trying to start a fire on one of the nature reserves that hadn't already burnt. I don't know what the justice system will do with him, but I think he needs to be in custody for his own safety.
We were supposed to be having a belated family birthday party for my brother-in-law on Sunday but I think he's cancelling it now. It's too risky for people to travel away from home in this region. My birthday's the Tuesday after but I didn't have any big plans anyway. By Tuesday the whole thing should be over, finally!

Back again... thought I would post the latest official information (about an hour ago) to summarise what's going on.
I tell you one thing, I pay a hell of a lot more attention to the wind direction during the weather forecast than I ever did before!
For the Americans, 6km = about 4 miles, 25km = 15 or 16 miles and 50km = about 31 miles. ----------------------------------------------------------
Latest Fire Information- released by the Emergency Services Bureau at 1200 Wednesday 22 January 2003
There is no immediate danger to any Canberra suburb. ACT Emergency Services Bureau says that conditions continue to remain calm after the easterly moved in on Tuesday evening.
Fires to the North west of Canberra are approximately 6km from Belconnen, and this fire is currently contained. Mopping up operations will include aerial bombing. Fires to the south of Canberra are approximately 25kms south of Tuggeranong. The fire front extends some 50kms from Mt Bimberi to the Murrumbidgee River. This is under close scrutiny. In the south, Army chainsaw crews will continue to clear roads.
Residents should remain alert and prepare for high temperatures over the weekend.
The total fire ban has been extended until midnight on Monday 27 January 2003.

Her writing and directing a movie would be fab, given that "all things" was such a good XF episode. I seriously recommend you see that movie when all this fire business clears up a little. I made my mom drive me 45 minutes away to see it the weekend it opened. She hadn't read the book and I completely spoiled the end for her. Yea, she's been doing a play in London called What the Night is For. The premise is that is that two people who were involved in an affair 10 years earlier meet up again in a hotel for one night. It's gotten mixed reviews so far. There were some really good ones, but a lot of the critics don't realize that it's a completely different type of of play than anything ever made and judge it by different standards. After each show Gillian and her co star, Roger Allam, stand outside and talk to fans. She autographs things, talks to fans, takes pictures with them...each and every one in the cold London night. And she really talks to them. Everyone who I know that has went has said what an amazing experience talking to her was because she looked you in the eyes the whole time. But now I'm rambling lol

If Gillian Anderson looked ME in the eyes (despite the fact she's considerably shorter than I am ) I would probably be reduced to a complete bubbling mess. I'm going weak at the knees just thinking about it... My best friend lives in England and is trying to get a foothold into theatre (primarily musical theatre). He's very into Tori - and nearly fell over when I told him she lives right near where he spends his holidays in Cornwall - but he's not an XF freak like me. I shall have to tell him to investigate! You know, the really embarrassing thing about House of Mirth is that my PARENTS actually went, without me! They're moderately aware of who GA is thanks to me playing large numbers of XF episodes in the house. Dad was MIGHTILY impressed by her performance, and he doesn't often volunteer that kind of information.

Like, I'll be watching my XF dvds and my mom will come in my room to tell me something and watch for a few seconds and say something like "oh..I remember this one. Gillian acted really well in it". Which is why I figured when I asked my mom if we could go see the play she'd say yes! But she said no.. We've been to London many times before so it's not like a big vacation or anything, it could just be like a 2 or 3 day see Gillian and go home thing, but no... lol if she looked me in the eyes, I'd fall over. I was shaking so badly when I saw Tori and I wasn't even standing next to her and actually talking to her. But the cool thing is that Gillian is actually TALLER than me. I'm at a good Gillian picture height lol. I'm part of some Gillian message boards if you want to check them out. pub10.ezboard.com/bgillianandersonglobalcommunity That one is made up of people who used to be part of the old GAWS boards before they got shut down, but new people join all the time. You'd fit right in with all us crazy obsesses lol and I have to go to bed..gnight
