"The US has launched a spam offensive in the hopes of persuading senior Iraqi officials to defect.
A senior unnamed US military official told CNN that thousands of email messages have been sent out since last Thursday, when the unconventional campaign began.
"This is just the beginning of a psychological warfare campaign," he said.
The propaganda messages, written in Arabic and targeted at senior officials and military, apparently include a helpful guide on how to defect, along with an appeal to turn over any information on Iraq's supposed chemical and biological weapons programme to UN inspectors.
The messages, titled 'Important Information', also urge military personnel to disable weapons of mass destruction or refuse to use them in the event of war, which is starting to look increasingly likely. It's believed to be the first time the US has used email propaganda in an information warfare campaign.

We all love spam instead of making 'em defect they're probably gonna p*ss em off a bit more , great now we're gonna have some p*ssed off guys who may or may not have bio-wapons ah... strategic planning at its best It isn't really as bad as all the sex spam we get, it at least has some direction towards them, it's about things that concern them directly. As long as we don't start trying to sell them Viagra and "Four more Inches!!" I have a theory about all of this..... The American government has been using us as guinea pigs in order ot see the long term effects of spam, and now that they've seen the mental anguish it can cause, they're ready to use it. Forget weapons of mass destruction and prepare to witness.....weapons of mass spam action....

I was reading an article, from the BBC i think, about how some hacker got Saddams email address and read some of his mail (I'm sure he gets thousands a day). They said he got all kinds of messages from death threats to offers to join his army. On that note, I wonder if Saddam gets pissed off too when he goes to those pages with 50 pop up ads that like lock up your computer and stuff ;D
