What age is "college proper" for?
All these people at school, you're making me feel terribly ancient. I haven't been at any kind of school for over three years now, and I managed to draw out university to about twice the normal length!
Mind you, work has better internet access ;D

i'm not even starting til the 28th of this month. my husband and i are taking all online classes, we'll be able to get our associates without leaving the house. and i can do most of my 1st year stuff for vet medicine online, so i'm going to be doing 2 things (web design & medicine stuff- which is still a maybe)... but at least i can do them from home.

speaking of Billy Madison... STAY IN SCHOOL AS LONG AS YOU CAN!!!
I graduated in August and finding a job was not very easy (well, I was an English major and we're not really in high demand). I have one now and I'm happy but I didn't even get a break for the holidays and loan payments start soon and ARGH!
don't rush it... i miss the days when i could wake up at noon, have 2 classes and go back to sleep!

I think a good college age is mid 20s, at that age you start having a pretty good idea where you want your life to go. Honestly, I think that going to college right of high school isn't such a good idea because you haven't had a chance to see the world, mature, and see what role you want to play in the world. I am not saying that goes for anyone though, there are plenty of teens who know what they want to do, but I think that tasting adult life for a while gives you a good idea of who you are. It helps to "feel" yourself out before choosing a major or if you even college is your thing. I hear stories of people who get highly successful careers out of college but hate their lives because they aren't doing what the want to do.

I agree to a point, Daemeon, but to be quite honest, I'm 16 years old right now, in college (today is my first day back.. but only one class ;D), and I know exactly what I want to do. I am aware of the fact that most of the people I went to high school with last year, though, should NOT be going directly into college in two and a half more years. It would be, for them, a complete waste. There are some of us that do know what we want and how we want to get there... it's just that the others far outweigh us. Oh yes, I will be begging for help from bumblebee once my biology classes start getting hard Hehe!.

It helps to "feel" yourself out before choosing a major or if you even college is your thing. I hear stories of people who get highly successful careers out of college but hate their lives because they aren't doing what the want to do. God, I wish someone told me (and my parents) this before I went to college! I was shuffled quickly into the college of my parents choice, into the major that my parents saw as appropriate for me, as soon as I was out of high school. I really should have taken some time off in-between to understand what it was that *I* really wanted. I desperately wanted to transfer, but I could tell that my parents were against it and I always try to keep everyone happy. Now I have just graduated, with a degree that could certainly lead to a highly (financially) successful career, but I absolutely HATE what I would be doing. I have no desire to search for a job (I have a temp job, but it's not "career-related"), because I know I'll want to shoot myself once I get into my field. Anyway, I definitely agree with Daemeon in that a student should wait until they know what they really want before going to college. Oh well, self-pity isn't going to help me a bit, so I'd better figure out (fast) what it is that I really want and I how I can get it!!
