Ok... I have been trying to keep my lips sealed because I was hoping to tell more people in person (outside of work), but it seems the word has spread like wildfire, so it's time to spill the news...
...yes, after nine years together, Josh and I are finally officially engaged!! #10#
As many of you know, we recently took a trip to Scotland. It was an excellent vacation (actually, the first we have ever taken together), and on the last night of our trip Josh proposed at the gates of Edinburgh Castle!
I don't have my own pics online yet, but the entrance to the castle looks like this at night: and here are some other pics: 1 (the street viewable below is where our hotel was), 2, 3, 4... Also see this site for info on the castle, if you're interested.
The Details:
During our last full day in Scotland, we kept remarking about what a perfect vacation it had been. Neither of us wanted to leave. Little did I know that it was going to get even better before we left…
That evening, after a beautiful but long day-trip to Loch Ness and the Highlands (here is a pic), we were exhausted. By the time we returned to the hotel in Edinburgh, it had gotten pretty late. Nevertheless, Josh told me that he wanted to go for a walk, to take another look at the city before we had to leave the following morning. I nearly ruined it for him, as we had a very long day, and I didn't feel like going anywhere. In the back of my mind, I was thinking that a proposal during our vacation would be very sweet, but I convinced myself that it wasn't really going to happen.
Fortunately, I consented to the walk. I was a bit suspicious, because it wasn't a stroll -- he was tugging me along at a decent pace -- and I could see that we were heading uphill toward the castle. It is absolutely breathtaking, especially when lit up at night, but it towers over the city so I wasn't sure why we were going there to view it. As we arrived, I started freaking out as I realized that Josh was making a beeline for the front gate, and that maybe he really was going to propose. I kept telling him that we probably weren't supposed to be there at that hour, that we should leave, etc.
He quieted me down and finally was able to get me up to the main gate... where he dropped to his knee, showed me the ring, and popped the question. #26#
My initial response was "no," (actually, I repeated this several times!) What I meant was, "no, you’re not actually doing this," because I couldn't believe it. I'm fairly certain that he understood, but that wasn’t quite the answer that he was looking for.
So, he asked again -- of course I said yes! #13#
We returned to the hotel to admire the ring. He had worked with a jeweler to design a ring incorporating stones from his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The design and number of stones also holds a lot of meaning.
Now we actually have to plan the wedding... I'm thinking, another nine years? j/k
