Helen, woman! i'm constantly thinking of you, dear. how've you been? wanna take tropical vacations next year? come visit me and we'll walk barefoot along the beach together, how's that? i'm inviting Sabsy and Carly too. and Mary, does anyone know how she's doing? i haven't heard from the California Sade forever!
ps. did i mention that i bought a car? guess not... would've made bigger news, i was way too excited about it for the first month and a half of use. now i've simmered down a bit once i realized how expensive having an automobile can be, lol.

^Bahaha! You just want an excuse to get us all barefoot! Yeah, having a car is expensive alright. I'm thinking of trading mine in for something more fuel efficient, because it's just absurd. But thus is the nature of the U.S, sadly. Speaking of which, I watch CNN all day at work and it really depresses the hell out of me. I know there are more important things to be upset about than this, but this story really pissed me off yesterday- So, apparently California has one of the highest rates of foreclosed homes right now. Many of these homes have swimming pools, and instead of draining the pools or covering them (what concepts!), they've just left them open and filled indefinitely. Well, naturally misquitoes have begun breeding in these neglected pools and there has been an increase in west nile virus in the area. Here's the whole story if anyone's interested. www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008/06/foreclosures_westnile. This quote really irritated me- "Fortunately, the increase in cases has not been seen so much in humans, but in birds. However, health officials are concerned the disease could easily spread from birds to humans."Oh, well, if it's just birds, who the fuck cares, right? Um....how about some discussion on what to do about all these pools instead of just hemming and hawing about it. I really get sick of human beings fucking things up and innocent animals having to suffer because of it. The now officially endangered polar bear is a prime example. Grrrrr. I guess this should have been posted in the angry thread. Oh well. I just really hate people sometimes.

Paulo, the California Sade is doing well. She's going to help me create a blog for my Seoul adventures and it should be a good time had by all. She's enjoying herself at her favorite lake this week.

The petrol prices are disgusting all over the world though.. ugh. I feel Paulo's pain - I've only been running a car for like 6 months but it's crazy. Then again when I hear co-workers complaining that it costs around $150 to fill up their cars, I think about my little gutless wonder that fills up on $60 and can't help but laugh... teehee. The pool, birds, virus situation is horrible. My brain just kinda shut down... I could go on about shit like that for hours though. You're right, maybe we should take it to the angry thread as this could become a big old rant lol.

^ just to show you how much better than them your are. Paulo, the California Sade is doing well. She's going to help me create a blog for my Seoul adventures and it should be a good time had by all. She's enjoying herself at her favorite lake this week. tell her she's lovely for me. oh, and that i've recently re-dug out my Dave Matthews Band cds she made for me and along with you and your Kiley, she's responsible for my early summer musical education. i'm loving them so much. Sabsy, what would this west nile virus's symptoms be like? it sounds remarkably like dengue fever, which i had earlier this year.

The petrol prices are disgusting all over the world though.. ugh. . Oh, yeah, I know they are. It's awful. When I was talking about the absurdity of the U.S, though, I wasn't just talking about the price of fuel. I meant just generally, that things are absurd right now! lol You know, economy, politics, the media etc. But that's like a whole other thread...... Sabsy, what would this west nile virus's symptoms be like? it sounds remarkably like dengue fever, which i had earlier this year. I didn't know this until I read it just now, but actually they are both in the family Flaviviridae and very similar in structure. Looks like the symptoms are similar, too, but the symptoms of dengue fever seem to be more severe than west nile virus, from what I've read. Have you recovered completely? It really sounds quite terrible.

barack obama's in berlin today and i can't go. :-( Sad day! I'm desperately trying to find a way in to the Democratic National Convention - it's being held in Denver, an hour south of where I live, and I will cry if I can't go.

actually i DID see him, after all! he came to where i work to talk to the foreign minister and i saw him leave... that's a consolation for not having been able to make it to the speech at the victory column. but it's unbelievable - never ever would a german politician have been able to entice 200,000 people to go see them, and obama does this with ease. the germans love him. understandably. we're soooooo damn tired of bush.

meanwhile, condaleeza rice is in auckland right now.. vomit
the auckland university student association were going to give $5000 to anyone who could successfully carry out a citizens arrest on her for war crimes. of course nobody will because the cops are already making threats over simple peaceful protests, but it still amused me.

So I moved to Seoul. lol bahaha that's fucking funny. meanwhile, whilst i appreciate Obama as a democrat and his efforts to change many a tidbit in American politics, the pop superstar attraction he draws is starting to bother me. day by day he resembles more Evita Peron than George Washington. all loud talk, very little substance. hope it doesn't affect his platform.

Oh, jesus. I hate Crocs so fucking much. I actually have a growing collection of horrendous Crocs pictures on my camera. A couple months ago I saw a woman with a bright yellow purse made out of Crocs plastic and had the little holes in it and everything. And when I was in Florida I found Crocs cellphone cases. Oh, and I've also seen Crocs with rhinestones and bows. My 2.5 year old niece has tiny pink Crocs and I think they're cute. Little kids are the ONLY people who should be allowed to wear them. And my friend Amanda emailed me this article a couple days ago: www.newsweek.com/id/150240/page/2

So, we have this skunk that's been nosing around our yard. The first time it was late afternoon. Alex and I were trying to figure out if it was OK because skunks are not supposed to be active during daylight. It didn't seem afraid of us at all, but it wasn't aggressive either. Alex was going to shoot it because he said it could be rabid, but I begged him to give it another chance. I thought maybe there was some logical explanation. But this morning around 9am, I saw it again, out in my backyard. This time it seemed a little more timid, and would run when I opened the door. But kept coming back. Eventually it wandered back into the woods. It didn't seem to be stumbling or anything like that. But it is a warning sign to see a skunk active during daylight, not once but twice. I've been reading a lot about rabies, and the only symptoms it seems to have are being active during daylight and not being very timid. It also didn't spray or anything like that, which is strange behavior for a skunk. But other than that, it seems fine. Maybe it's just a dumb skunk? (Although.....I guess one type of rabies is the "dumb" type where they aren't aggressive, but still.) I dunno. I just don't want the poor thing shot unless it truly is rabid. It came really close to the house this morning and was so cute. But if it IS rabid, of course it should be put out of it's misery, and turned over to animal control so they can warn the public. There's a lot of cats and dogs around here, and I strongly doubt all of them have been vaccinated for rabies. But I don't want a innocent animal to die if it isn't truly ill, either. Who agonizes over the life of a skunk? Really. But it was SO cute.
