And everytime I read you these lyrics give me some headache So if you've any interpretations of what this song's about Let me know and I will give you thanks and love
lol, can you believe i already sang those lines with the Father Lucifer melody? yes, believe it, i did.
Give me your interpretations of this song please! my mom says Tori is satanic because of the word Lucifer in the song's name, so I want to explain to her the meaning of the song according to every line in the song.
Tnx. Love Blissy

I always think that this song is not about satan but about challenging her views on religion, somehow I see Tori singing this to her father lol. or maybe to someone who pushes the bible in her face everytime she turns around just to confuse them. Haullie

Haullie Haullie, I agree with you! I also think this song could be about Tori's dad. Oh and about the satan thing, i know the song isn't about it, but my mom... mm.. she thinks so just because the name, when she heard it she was like: oh my! now i know why i can't stand this girl... huh.... i hate sometimes the way my mom thinks.

All I know is that she flips off the audience when she sings, "Girls that eat pizza who never gain weight." It's pretty funny, actually.

[/move] Well , in witchcraft the apple is associated with love - think dunking for apples, peeling the apple then throwing behind you. Then the letter that it forms is the inital of your true love. Well i remember something about putting an apple seed in frying pan if its pop its not true love or something similar! Also throwing the apple seed at the celling to see if your love is requited! Father Lucifer testing to see if Tori loves him? I see this song at Tori moving on, escaping perhaps Foo xxx [/quote] interesting. I remember in school we would twist the stems of the apples and say the letters of the alphabet on each twist & the letter the stem broke off on was the initial of your true love's first name. I always would cheat & pull the stem really hard on "J". lol

i remember tori telling a story about father lucifer. her father told her he was really hurt cause he thought she was comparing him to the devil. but she said "no dad, i was on an acid trip and really did meet lucifer" and he said "oh thank god." i think this is a song she wrote when she was trippin' and its about random people who she might have seen during her trip.

my favorite way to look at most of tori's songs is usually by line or in sections, so here goes...
(oh but before i begin, i totally cheated at the apple stem game too. but it was a different letter depending on what boy i liked that week. and sometimes if it came off too early i would find a last name, middle name, nickname or something that made it work!!! lol)
-father lucifer you never looked so sane/you always did prefer the drizzle to the rain/tell me that you're still in love with that milkmaid/how the lizzies how's your jesus christ been hanging?
i think here she's saying that she never really understood satan or that evil part of herself until this moment because evil prefers to be subtle sometimes instead of just pounding down on you like the rain. the next two lines i think are just about becoming familiar with the darkness and how it works in relation to other things such as love, religion, etc...
-nothing's gonna stop me from floating
well, she was on an acid trip and being "enlightened." anyone who's ever done it or heard about it from someone who has should understand this! lol.
-he says he reckons i'm a watercoulor stain/he says i run and then i run from him and then i run/he didn't see me watching from the aeroplane/he wiped a tear and then he threw away our appleseed
this part baffles me but i really like it. i wonder why watercolors?? the stain line tells me that she's made some sort of lasting impression (a colorful one?). no idea. the running i always thought of running away from a relationship (sort of like in "baker baker" when she says "i ran from him in all kinds of ways"). "he didn't see me watching from the aeroplane" always makes me think of really being able to see what someone is like - you almost have a bird's eye view of what they are doing and what they are like and are really aware of things they don't know you're aware of if that makes any sense at all! "he wiped a tear and then he threw away our appleseed" makes me think of him kind of being upset over the loss for like a minute - just one tear and he wipes it away- but then he just tosses away the thing that will allow them to grow, their second chance, maybe even the thing that brought them together in the first place. basically, he is throwing away their relationship.
-everyday's my wedding day/though baby's still in his comatose state/i'll die my own easter eggs/don't go yet/ and beenie lost the sunset but that's but that's ok/does joe bring flowers to marilyn's grave/and girls that eat pizza but never gain weight/father lucifer you never looked so sane
all these random, jumbled together thoughts sort of convey a kind of confusion but yet they're sung so beautifully that it doesn't sound like chaos or confusion at all. kind of like when you're tripping and every thought is kind of random and strange and doesn't really make any sense at all but yet at the same time, it makes perfect sense and each thought is the most wise and beautiful you've ever had. i won't dissect each line because i think the overall effect is more important...
hmmm... funny how i never really think any of this stuff until i start writing about it. i never had any of these observations about this song until now! that's so funny.
and you're all going to think i'm some druggie but i'm not!! i had a couple "party" years in my teens but i'm over it now!!! lol.
want to know more thoughts people!!!

so, you're from croatia? that's awesome! i'm little more than half croatian though i don't really know anything about those roots, how sad.
so, what are your thoughts on the song??

actually every time i listen to this song i have a different interpretation... i don't think even tori could explain this whole song properly... sometimes you just write some things that don't have much sense cause you felt like writing it or maybe cause you were high ;D but i like the explanation she gave her father veela you're part croatian? cool! croatia is nice, you should come here if you get the chance...
