Love love LOVE this B-side, but one thing in particular is bugging me. I know where Alamo is and what happened there, but have no clue about "embarcar" or "Embarcadero" or "Embarcerar" in the 2nd verse - I can't even get agreement on how to spell it between two websites and my own guess! Hoping that someone from USA/Mexico might know something and explain it to me!
--------------------------- [hereinmyhead.com version]
alamo heard all about your fandango banged on my knees on your back door only to wake you to blues on the way blues on the way blues on the way
embarcar figures you'll see me as older twenty-three hours till the border don't think i'll be going as fast as i came fast as i came fast as i came
tears on my pillow of course they're not mine alter that altar making a play somebody invent the telephone line i'll take mine my chances
alamo wish i could do what gold does heard that the stars were in order got yourself dealt a hand with two queen of spades and blues on the way blues on the way
tears on my pillow of course they're not mine alter that altar making a play somebody, just somebody, invent the telephone line i'll take my chances

Ohhh, Alamo is among my top 5 favorite b's. Love it, too.
I most definitely think she's saying "embarcadero". In spanish, that simply means "landing place" or wharf. The verb ebarcar means to embark. I always think of San Francisco when I hear this song (despite the famous 1836 battle) because that's the "Embarcadero" I know.....it's the wharf area along the the water in San Francisco, a very famous area and with one of the most beautiful 'city walks' along the water. The big earthquake of 1989 caused the elevated Ebarcadero freeway to collapse. The city was once governed by a spanish man, which was when Ebarcadero got its name, I think. Anyway, when I hear Tori sing of "gold" it goes hand in hand with SF (think of the Gold Rush, and all who 'embarked' to come to this state for it), also there is a well-known part of SF called "Alamo Square". Both Alamo and Embarcadero are rich with the city's history.
So while I'm quite sure Tori's referring to the Texas battle, My California mind (and having lived near the city by the bay for several years) puts this song closer to home for me, which I'm sure is not want you were looking to know, but oh well. lol
Now, if you think she's saying something like "embarcara", with an accent on the last 'a', that would be the future indicative tense of "embark"....(I think! someone more fluent in spanish could say)
Did that help or did I just throw you a dusty curveball? lol

Try as I might honeybee, I can't hear a "do" at the end of "Embarcadero". Not even a whispered one.
NEXT!

Blues on the waaaayyyy
micel, I cannot sing. I mean, I can sing, but I can't sing.LOL That doesn't stop me from singing lines from Tori songs all the time, though. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it..... There have been times where people have asked me "what ARE you singing?", which finds me a little embarassed, especially when it's things like "ballerinas that have fins that you'll never find" or "knowing that she tastes like a hamburger maid". LOL One time in the grocery store a guy actually recognized that I was singing a couple lines from Spark....I couldn't believe it!
Wish I could do what gold does....

LMAO, micel!
Since we've already hijacked my dearest's thread here....let me mention yet another favorite "what the hell?" line that I often sing...
"Got a crack in, got a crack in some strange places..."
Really good while waiting on line at the bank!
(actually, Daisy Dead Petals is pretty much FULL of crazy lines to sing....Might as well fry some eggs... LOL)

Hi, I'm an idiot...
I've listened to Alamo countless times. I love the song, but have never looked up the lyrics. Here is what I have been hearing for about a year now.
Heard all about your friend and foe...

dun dun dun...
bee, your memory has failed you for the first time on this forum! I actually thought "coquette" was "cool kid, not "cool cat." LOL
I was playing Pro Widow the other day and my 15 year-old sister loved the "give me peace, love, and a hard cock" line so much that she put it on her away message. Can we say, "worrisome?"

Here's a cute conversation Tori had with fans about it when they requested it at a show: Tori: "How do you know about Alamo?" Girl: "Cause your single was released on Monday!" Tori: "Shit. I've never played that before. Hang on hang on hang on. (Mr. Fuzzy goes flying) Shows you how much I care about Mr Fuzzy. OK. Lemme think...lemme think. What key is it in?" Guy: "E flat" Tori: "Is it? (plays a few notes) It is NOT in E flat. hangon hangon hangon hangon hangon...I'll get it. (plays first few notes in the wrong key - stops) I wanna play this. I wanna do it, just be patient and I'll figure it out. (applause) Turn the lights down, Simon, they're flustering me. OK, now I haven't played this since I recorded it and I just kinda wrote it on the spot so my brain has like noodles in it...but...um...how does it go...shhhh. (sings: aah-la-mo...) oh yeah, I got it now (begins playing)" -- Tori; (in-concert) Portsmouth, UK, Mar 13, 1996
: The Heat - Toni Braxton
