UPSIDE DOWN god I love to turn my little blue
world upside down god I love to turn my little blue
world upside down inside my head the noise chatter
chatter CHATTER chatter chatter you see I'm afraid
I'll always be still comin' out of my mother upside
down Don't you love to turn this little blue girl
upside down oh I know you love to turn this little
blue girl baby upside down but my heart it says
you've been shatter shatter shatter SHATTER shat-
tered and I know you're still a boy still comin' out of
your mother but when you gonna stand on your own
I say the world is sick you say tell me what that
makes us darlin' you see you always find my faults
faster than you find your own you say the world is
getting rid of her DEMONS I say baby what have
you been smokin' well I dreamed I dreamed I
dreamed I loved a black boy my daddy would
scream oh yeah don't you love to turn this little
blue girl upside down any kind of touch I think is better
than none even upside down but you see I'm tan-
gled up got a kitten kitten kitten KITTEN in my
hair Cincinnati I like the word it's the only thing we
can't seem to turn upside down well I found the
secret to life 'm O.K. when everything is not O.K. . .
I think this song is about generally being different than others. Feeling very out of place from day 1.
Here's Tori's description of it:
"It's a b-side time. This one didn't get on the record. It's really funny. I think you'll appreciate this. in my little place that i was living in when i was putting this record together, i made these envelopes like a faerie ring. and um, people would come in and out and they'd get shot if they walked in there. they had to get away from that. because i was deciding. i had 15 songs and only x amount could go on. so they were deciding who wanted to come and who wanted to go somewhere else. this was the hardest one not to get on the record. because um, the reason it didn't was because the very last song was written, Me And A Gun, the very final one to get on. This one just said, "you know, i'll go somewhere else and i'll hangout and i'll come and play whenever you want me to." it's the sweetest vibe, this song. so i play it as much as i can just because um you know, it's one of my favorite people, this song. it's on a few b-sides..though the import section." (laughter)

"Sticks, rocks, food, all sundry items came into the faery donut, including my feet over my head and a little blue girl."
-- Tori; Little Earthquakes songbook
I: Which of your songs is your personal favourite?
T: Upside Down, which was a B-side, I think.
-- Tori; W96.3 University Radio, Feb 25, 1994
"The only regret I ever have is that Upside Down wasn’t on Little Earthquakes."
-- Tori; Beat magazine, Jul 1994
“In England, every time you release a single you have an opportunity to put down songs you’ve never recorded. In the beginning, it was like, ‘Oh, wow, great.’ Now it’s like I have to do it because I’ve been known for that. If I don’t put on a b-side people write me really nasty letters. Really. My hardcore fans, their favorite stuff is my b-sides. The big faves are Here. In My Head and Upside Down.”<br>-- Tori; Free Music Monthly, Aug 1994
