I just have to vent because I have recently read (in two different sources) reviewers comparing Vanessa Carlton to Tori. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Do they not have ears? Yes, they both play the piano and write their own songs, but that's where the similarities end. I find Vanessa Carlton's lyrics incredibly trite (Tori's are, of course, phenomenal) and Vanessa's voice is less than stellar (Tori's is pure and haunting). I would love to hear your thoughts on this, even if they are opposite mine.  |

i do like vanessa carlton. but i think the comparision is far off. they are both two totally different ppl..and styles.. i like vanessa but i understand and feel the emotions when i hear tori...vanessa is just pleasing pop music. i commend her for writing her own songs and playing the paino..wait never mind thats were musicians are supposed to do  i like her...like i said comparision is apples and oranges here ppl |

I think that if you are a female vocalist that can play a piano, the music industry automatically thinks you must be like Tori Amos without even listening.
Vanessa Carlton herself has said she doesn't agree with the comparison to Tori, nor is she trying to be like Tori. (Thank GOD!)

the comparison is far of indeed!! in a dutch magazine there was this article on vanessa carlton her new album and it said:
"i think vanessa's music is easier to understand ... the mainstream does not like tori cause her lyrics are difficult to understand and her songs can be very confrontating ... vanessa is easy ... simple ... im glad tori is not like that"

though i like vanessa carlton, i agree. i have her album but the lyrics aren't really that original. i do really like the tune of "rinse" and "paradise", but she can't even compare to tori. but hey, no one does do they? |
