I don't know, Carly. Good Question. I noticed that she didn't vote for Damien Rice, though. LOL! But she did vote for Steve Earle, one of my other favorite singer/songwriter/guitarists.

This pains me. We might have to have a little chat with Mizz Amos... LMAO! Ya, we'll set her straight. At the concert Damien mentioned being 'nominated for "whatever award", it's all very lovely and beautiful and we'd never expected this..." He was so cute. Apparently, he did an interview really quick about it with some reporter right between the soundcheck earlier and his actual show that night. He says he's NEVER done that before, but it "had to be done" and the reporter was very nice and it went well, but he's sure it was just bad luck to do it b/c they had so many technical problems later (the ones I described). Anyway, I can tell you I'm glad that he won, and I'm sure he's honored for the award, too, but that night he could have really cared less!

Lol... all I can say is thank goodness this thread just won't die... I always see it lurking around here in this section of the forum, and because of that, I downloaded some more of his songs!
Delicate... oh boy.. I just LOVE it.. It's my fave thus far (lol ok, ok.. so I only have 4 of his songs! but it's a start) So I thank you guys for your massive obsession... if not for that I may not have really noticed the guy.
Actually, another thing that re-sparked my interest is a lil review of his album I read in Rolling Stone the other day.. Here's some of what it said:
Unimpressed with slick recording studios, Rice bought a portable digital 8-track recorder for around $US1,000 and spent the next two and a half years laying down tracks for his debut, O, whenever and wherever he damn well pleased. "I'd record in my bedroom, my kitchen, my toilet" he says. "That's why the songs are kinda chilled - I didn't want to wake up the neighbours".

How pathetic that I never finished my review! Ok, here's the rest of the setlist for ya... Again, I'm not 100% certain of the order, but this is what I had written down immediately after seeing the concert that night... Prague Cold Water Hallelujah (cover) Cannonball Face Cheers Darlin' [long jam that continued after Cheers Darlin' with the band plus Pedestrian, plus a guest singer from Spain (I think, he said) plus a guest violinist who was incredible... the jam lasted probably 12 minutes or so... amazing!] When Doves Cry (cover) Um, then we had to leave because it was after 1am and I only had the babysitter scheduled til then, and we still had an hour drive home from Hollywood, lol! So I'm not sure of the actual song he ended on.... Sean thinks he probably went on for another hour, seeing that it was the final show of the tour and he was really amped toward the end. I'm excited for your April (b-day!) show, Cazlry!!! PS- the bestest cutest 'story' was told by Damo before 'Cheers Darlin' as they were setting up all the extras on stage... remind me to tell you later; right now I've gotta let Ali finish her homework here... xo

You can see a handful of Damien videos at: launch.yahoo.com/artist/videos.asp?artistID=1099342Volcano, Delicate, and The Blower's Daughter are all acoustic studio versions from the same studio session. Very nice, but not quite the same versions that are on the album; they're a bit stripped down. (note: the Volcano video was the one I saw way back when that made me go and started my obsession.) The 'emerging artist' performance of Volcano is even more stripped... no Lisa in that one. However, I really like being able to see Vyv in it so well, and Damien sings Lisa's verse with some pretty good intensity ('volcanoes MELT you down...') and the ending of the song, with Damien yelling "I kissed your mouth" gives me chills... Check 'em out. And here are some live streams from his site: www.damienrice.com/music_live.htmland several mp3s from the UK site: www.damienrice.co.uk/music.asp

okay, who's that woman singing 'Be My Husband' and why the heck is that on a Diamen Rice website? 'The Professor' is rather annoying, i don't think i like it much. I loved 'Weatherman' and in particular, 'Volcano'. i really did like that song. made me feel like listening to Jennifer Knapp.
