OMG! Actually, the reason I got into Tori - now my biggest musical obsession - was because Alanis Morissette used to be my biggest musical obsession!
I went and saw Alanis on the 5 1/2 weeks tour, and one of the girls I was going with was a huge Tori fan, so I figured I'd get a CD and listen to it for a while just so I could be slightly familiar. Little did I know...
And also, the first CD I ever bought was Jagged Little Pill. I think that is the most often first-bought CD for people my age... I know a lot of girls who might not even like her that much anymore but that was the first CD they bought, just because that happened to be around the time they started listening to CDs.
I do still like Alanis... just not as much. JLP will always be in my top 10 though.

Talulad that's how I got into Tori (which is also my main musical obssession) through Alanis (who used to be my main musical obseesion). I had read that Alanis listened to "Little Earthquakes" and I also had noticed that Alanis and Tori were on alot of the same compilation cd's. So, I bought it and was instantly hooked! Will always love Lanny (Alanis) though!

i really like alanis. i used to not like her so much when i associated her with hateful male bashing but her song "that i would be good" has changed my life. i know that seems crazy, but it just expressed everything i felt one day. she isn't quite as amazing as bjork or tori, but she is way up there. a lot of the things she writes about i can completely relate too. and if anyone thinks she only bashes men they should check out sfij or her latest album. really great profound songs.

Have been the biggest Lani fan since the first day Jagged Little Pill came out. Very proud of that still. I've loved everything she's done since, but I have heard some versions of "new" material floating around on her message boards.. I dunno...

Here's where you can find a lot of the stuff she's been working on, all live versions from lucky European fans who got to see her most recent tour. You'll find a lot of other goodies there, too, so search around.

I used to love Alanis in my angst ridden middle school days, but now that I'm calm Tori's my #1.
Anywho, I don't dislike Alanis she has my respect.

alanis introduced me to tori. i read some interview about her when she released SFIJ (which is a horrible album) and there was a little side note talking about how 'little earthquakes' had inspired her and bjork. i'm a massive kate bush fan, so i'd already read about tori being compared to her, so that interview was the last straw. i went to the usa shortly thereafter and snatched a copy of LE. little did i know it included "crucify", a song i already knew since it first came out (i was 8 back then) and never knew who was singing.
