Ok, I voted for Ron Sexsmith.. But heres the story: I really know nothing much at ALL about his music - but he appeared for a live performance on a local music tv show recently and he was great!! I should check him out further, probably... *adds him to the mental list*

I don't really know any of these/listen to them. But what a surprise, for some reason I always thought Sexsmith was British! Hmm gotta look for his stuff...

I can't stand Sarah McLachlan for some reason.. *ducks to avoid the airborne shoes*
Apart from like, Tori and PJ and the odd bit of Bjork, I'm not really much of a female vocalist sorta gal (oh, I almost forgot Portishead.. although Beth Gibbons isn't really a solo artist, but yeah).

I thought Ron Sexsmith sucked live, it took forever for him to get off the stage!

I have his latest album, Cobblestone Runway, which I got after seeing him open for Coldplay....and I quite like it. I'm sure he's got at least one or two previous albums, too, b/c he made mention of the fact at the show. He's no Damien, but he's cool. LOL

Ugh, I couldn't sit there listening to him that long. I barely understood him and every song sounded the same. I wasn't impressed at all, but I'm sure you have figured that out already! LOL

I voted for Alanis, because my canadian cousin who's making music, wasn't listed and he isn't really a musical genius, I mean you' re not one, if you call a song "Penis in the sand"...

You've been gone for MONTHS and now you come back here and mention my MOST FAVORITE Dave Matthews Band song (#41) and now one of my most favorite Canadians, Sarah Harmer, all in the same day?!!!! LOL! I love you!! I could hear Basement Apartment over and over... Ev'ry time I breeeeeeeeeeeeaathe, Ev'ry time I try to leeeeeeeeave.. ♥ Btw, for Sarah Slean fans, Sarah H. sings a song of hers called "My Invitation", which she performed FOR Sarah S. b/c she had lost her voice at a show; totally cool! You can hear it here:http://www.sarahharmer.com/av.html

what can i say? we're kindred spirits i guess. or we both just have the most rockin taste! lol. i wish i could play here more often. i missed it! didn't know you liked sarah. i cannot wait til her new album comes out (i don't know any details yet). i saw her at this tiny little place called club cafe back in june or july. i was sitting at a stool at the bar and she had to walk right passed me to get to the stage. when she did, some woman accidently bumped into her and she stopped, looked dead at me and strummed her guitar. i took some really cute pics of her on stage - it was such an awesome show!!! she played some new stuff and talked a ton and was too cute. and then she had to walk by me again when she left! i loooooooove her. "why do they call it the past ooooooooooohh when NOTHING'S PASSED? ?"

I've sampled only the title track (Greeting Card Aisle) from it...here:http://www.puretracks.com/Detail.aspx?pid=umg_00075021012035 it's a TINY clip, but she sounds great, as usual. Right now she's touring in Ireland....with Josh Ritter, whom I also like. I wish she would come to the U.S.!

lol.. i just read this. you'll have to read what i wrote on the "feature an artist" thread!!
it was very cool to see her and in such an intimate setting. what REALLY PISSES ME OFF though is that when tori came to pittsburgh this summer, she did a little, private, free show for a local radio station at the same place and i was pulling my hair out seeing just how tiny it is and how close i could have been!!! ARGH!
so that's my rant. we tried to get in (SO many people didn't show up and there were only about 10 of us outside and we actually really loved here whereas these people were just going cause it was free and they are pretentious fucks who give lots of money to the station and don't even give a shit about tori or her music - a few even LEFT! can you stand it??) but they wouldn't let us. we listened outside knowing that she was directly on the other side of the glass that my ear was pressed up against. ARGH again! and when she left they just brought her out the front door so i was at least able to take a pic and say "i love you" but OH MY GOD...
okay, NOW that's my rant!
