article follows: 'EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE' It's been four years and one big meltdown since Fiona Apple released her brilliant When the Pawn..., which was nearly eclipsed by negative PR after she threw an epic tantrum on stage at New York City's Roseland Ballroom. Now, the angsty Apple is prepping her third CD, Extraordinary Machine. It's her first work since her breakup with director P.T. Anderson, her longtime beau, so Apple has plenty of heartache to work with. "I tend to write about being hurt, but there's always anger in it," she says. "I can't let myself just be absolutely sad." EW: What's up with the title? Apple: The extraordinary machine is me--this era of my life. I feel like you can put anything in the machine and it'll be processed into something good, even if it is painful. [The machine] is happy. I feel pretty good. EW: And what does this machine's new music sound like? Apple: People have compared it to Tom Waits and OutKast. It's probably more OutKast than Waits. It's an amalgam of different elements. EW: Are you worried about touring after what happend last time? Apple: Once your worst nightmare comes true, it's horrible. For a while, just the name Roseland would make me cringe. After a while, there's a certain calm about it.... I don't think about it unless someone brings it up. EW: Oh. Sorry. Apple: No, no, it's okay. It seems really far away now, like when you peed your pants in kindergarten. EW: I still wake up thinking about that! Apple: I'm sorry... I have to go now. Extraordinary Machine, Early Summer 2004 ------------------------------------------------------------- Yay!!!!! it was about damn time too! wooo hoooo!!!! *spins into infinity*

That's great...can't wait!
What is she referring to though...about Roseland? What happened?

Hoo-bloody-ray! She was getting as bad as Seal...
Mandy, there's an article floating around somewhere on the Net about Fiona performing at Roseland and the sound system not working properly, and she ended up storming off stage rather than put up with it. Something like that anyway, it's quite a while since I read the story.

she completely freaked out on stage, that's what. she actually started bawling her eyes out in front of the audience, left stage and never returned. i think she didn't perform live for a really long time after that.

What happened when Fiona was on tour? I'm interested in listening to her new album! i don't know if it was a tour or just a concert, but it happened way back shortly after the release of 'When The Pawn', it was 99 or something. she was playing and the sound kept cutting off, i think, and she flipped out about it, cried onstage and all that. basically she ranted hysterically about how bad it was going, stormed offstage and never returned.

I don't know anything about her touring...in fact for now, the album release is on hold.
From fionahaswings.com:
Fiona Apple's new album, Extraordinary Machine, has been shelved by Sony, according to a recent Rolling Stone interview with Jon Brion, her producer. Supposedly, Sony cannot find a single and is unsure how to promote the record. There is no word yet on how long this will take.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Who needs singles anyway? Pink Floyd didn't. Radiohead barely scrape by at times.
Alternatively, they can go the Boys for Pele route - apparently anything can be turned into a single by remixing it.

OmG, I'll have you know that not only do they release singles but they release them most often in TWO PARTS (especially from that the Bends album) just to make us all want them both for the different b-sides available on each part! You think sorting through Tori singles is work?! Heh! Ok, and LMAO over and over at your last comment there!

But they certainly don't storm the charts or the airwaves over here (we only have ONE widely reported singles chart, not 55 different sub-categories like you). And I think I read somewhere that Kid A didn't have any singles.
