You're welcome, Aimee. You know, I was listening to Violent Femmes earlier and thinking they sound a bit like them, too. And yes, their song titles can be very interesting. Just like their album titles.

Hi Mary, o keeper of this thread... More research on the Pine Knob show indicates it is part of the second day of Lollapalooza (as you had said). Paying $65 to sit on the lawn (the only thing available right now) to hear one band out of a whole bunch just doesn't appeal to me. Sorry. Hopefully they can get out on their own so that I can give them full attention. Just not this August. SORRY!!

But I can totally relate... once my favorite band pulled out of the Coachella festival, we backed out of going, too. Yeah, I hope MM will do a big headlining tour of their own soon... I keep meaning to research that to find out. It seems like they should, since this album is selling well and getting good reviews and they've got a pretty loyal following after all these years. If I find any info, I'll let you know. Thanks for the update! ♥

Ok, I've only listened to the album once so all I can say for now is that I liked what I heard.. but will have to come back later for better ramblings. <hijack>... Anyway, sorry to hijack your thread like this Mary but I just noticed the Lollapalooza talk and HAD to tell you this... You're going to that right?? Well.. you have to make sure you watch The Datsuns! Coz then you'll have seen a kiwi band live!! So yeah... as long as there's not some other band that you'll just die if you miss that are on at the same time... then MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THE DATSUNS!!! (oh, and they ARE good, so yeah... ) Ok. That is all. </end hijack>

I bought their latest, 'Good News...' yesterday at Best Buy. I missed the $7.99 sale though. Doh! Paid $9.99 for it. I listened to most of it in the car. I am kinda diggin' it...I need more time to really say though.

I am listening to it now...and noticed that on the Windows Media Player thing, it pulls up a picture of the CD artwork, as well as a title and track listing...only thing is, it doesn't list the artist as "Modest Mouse"...it lists them as "The Dirty Dozen Brass Band". What's up with that, Mary? BTW, so far my favourite song is 'Satin in a Coffin'!

What's up with that, Mary? BTW, so far my favourite song is 'Satin in a Coffin'! Whooohooo!!!!!!!Mandy, Satin In a Coffin is BOTH my kids' favorite! EVERY DAMN time we put the disc on I have to go to track 11, then back to 10 (my favorite and their second favorite) and play through, then back to the beginning... They just LOVE that song! MM was on Letterman 2 weeks ago and they performed it live! We have it Tivo'd... good show! Anyway, LOL about the DDBB... what that's all about is MM used them for the 'horn intro' (track 1) [and also the same intro is used for the very beginning of 'This Devil's Workday'], so maybe that's why the artist is listed as DDBB. Does it show that way for the ENTIRE cd? LOL, Mine shows a little info tidbit in the upper right corner (I use realplayer) and shows the artist as MM and the cover artwork. I'm listening to it now, too! But I have to leave in 5 minutes to pick up Ali who will be really upset if I don't have 'Satin' cued up for her in the car, so this disc will travel with me YET AGAIN! (I'm thinking this is the most-travelled item of music I've had my hands on since Trevor first sent me the SoK tape last year... EXACTLY a year ago! omg...this got way off subject but I just remembered that! LOL) Mandy, I'm glad you are enjoying them! Don't you find that even the songs that are a bit more 'weird' or creative find a spot in you where they just grow and grow and you want to hear them again and again? Like, for example, on This Devil's Workday... the first time I heard it I was a little scared, LOL. That laugh at the end just cracks me up!... Anyway, now I'm singing along to it like I'm Tom Waits, all deep and intense. It's so different, yet so familiar and always interesting. I LOVE their music. If you want to get a good 'feel' of the theme or ideas behind the songs, you should go to www.allmusic.com and search their name and click on this album to read about it.

We went to Austin, TX over the holiday weekend...I heard "Float On" twice on the radio as we were driving through Dallas. Of course, I never would have known what it was had I not bought the CD just before we left...but anyhow, it was cool to hear them on the radio, b/c so far, they are not playing them here.

What does Clay think of 'em? He thinks they are "okay". I really thought he'd like them...but so far, he hasn't really had much of a reaction. I'm still in the getting to know them phase myself though...maybe he'll come around.

I'm hoping they do " Ocean Breathes Salty". *crosses fingers and toes in her head, in her mouth, in her soul...* ;D edit: OR The View! I'd love to hear that live! As life gets longer, awful feels softer. Well it feels pretty soft to me. And if it takes shit to make bliss, then I feel pretty blissfully....Oh yeah!

I actuyally do like Modest Mouse. They are fun, they have a unique sound and a very unique video as well. And it's nice to see someone like them come into our airways instead of Avril Lavine, Blah!

Now that Lollapalooza has been cancelled, will Modest Mouse be touring on their own?

Mary you should have seen me this morning going through my friend Jodi's CD collection.... I FOUND MODEST MOUSE!!! Heh, the arrows were unmistakeable! It was great - we'd just finished listening to Shane Nicholson (lovely Aussie guy with a Neil Finn-y kinda voice, and also Alex's live guitarist/backing vocalist) and I had no idea what I felt like listening to next, so I looked through Jodi's collection. Richard Ashcroft caught my eye, but the actual CD wasn't in the case, so more looking, and then BAM! Good News For People Who Like Bad News popped out!! Naturally, I popped it on and turned it up! I only got to hear the first 5 songs because it we were sort of getting ready to leave, but I really liked what I heard! Jodi was raving about them and telling me her story about not being able to find the album anywhere. She told me that Triple J, our national radio station has been playing them, so hooray!
