Hello to all toriforum members! If you are hearing about this top 100 songs thread for the first time, I encourage you to check out the following link before reading on. toriforum.proboards12.com/index.cgi?board=lounge&thread=1088818230&action=display&start=0 It was the original thread where the idea for this game was explained and the feedback received helped to shape the 'rules' for this ongoing nomination-game. In the interest of saving time and not repeating myself I'll not go over all the little details here... just read that thread to get caught up. ============================================ Here's how this "game" is going to work:When it's done, the goal is to arrive at a list of 100 songs that are our most favorite songs of all time. They can be songs from ANY artist, not just Tori. The way that's going to happen is that each of us (whether you have 1 post or 10,000 EVERYONE here is encouraged to participate) is going to nominate songs that we personally find to be our most favorite songs. The number of songs you may nominate depends on the points you give to them (see OFFICIAL RULES below). EDITING REQUIREMENTSThis thread will remain open and ongoing for 2 months (minimum) during which time you may post your list of songs (details to follow below) and you may edit your list as many times as you wish. HOWEVER! I ask that: 1. if you DO go back into your post and modify your list to edit out a song(s) and replace it with a different song(s), that you PLEASE post a separate quick post explaining what you took out and what you put in. We want to keep record of every song listed here, even if you change your mind and want to remove it before the game is done. The songs you remove will NOT get points, but we want to be able to see what you were considering. Only songs in your final list will get your points. 2. you please do attempt to work out your decisions as thoroughly as possible (perhaps on paper) before doing any impulsive posting. This will make for fewer edit-posts which will make following the thread much easier! But I do fully anticipate having several edit posts, so you don't need to apologize for them, just edit responsibly! At the end of the 'game' I will tally up the points accordingly (with weighted distribution, 4 points per entry of every song; see that other link for explanation) and the top 100 songs with the most points will make the list. I will post the final list sometime in September. Now, there very well might be a tie for several spots. If that happens, then we'll do a voting process to determine the final list. I HOPE that we'll get enough entries that ties won't be a problem, though. Ok, so here we go... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++OFFICIAL RULES and POINTS SYSTEM: 1. Everybody has 500 points to use. 2. 10 songs is the maximum number of songs allowed from any one artist. Tori and/or otherwise. (You may have up to 10 songs from Tori, up to 10 songs from Bjork or whoever, etc.) 3. 25 points is the maximum you may give to a song. 4. 5 points is the minimum you must give to a song. Note: all points must be in increments of 5. So 5, 10, 15, or 20 points are your choices. 5. You MUST have a minimum of 20 songs on your list. 6. PLEASE everybody list your entries like this: Complete and Accurate Song Title / Complete and Accurate Artist If everybody does it the same it will be much easier for me to read. Alphabetizing, or otherwise organizing your list is not necessary, but grouping songs within the same points group would be helpful, as would numbering the songs within each group... so I can easily tell that you've met the minimum but not exceeded the maximum number of songs.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Ok, so use your points however you'd like.... 20 songs each given 25 points, or perhaps 100 songs each given 5 pts.... or any other combo you want... just stay within the rules and the 500 points. If you have questions, FEEL FREE TO POST THEM. This thread is entirely welcome to get conversational![/b] Remember, everybody is encouraged to participate and it's more fun to put your list in early and make changes as necessary later... that way we can all see each other's favorites as we go along, rather than wait til the very end. It's perfectly fine to post a PARTIAL LIST to start off with, and then come back and finish it before the end. Newbies, this is a great way to jump in and share what other music you like and get to know everyone... we LOVE to talk about music here! Oldies, you better all play or I'll kick ya all in the eye! READY SET GO!!

Ok. After now reading that other thread in it's entirety, I think I finally understand the mathematics of it all.... so I'm in. Now just gotta go away and figure out how to even begin my list... (I know it'll be hard - I've been a Tool fan for how many years and I only JUST came to a decision on my fave song of theirs last week... *wimpers*).
I'll stop the rambling now. Don't wanna clutter up this thread with my crap. Must... get... to ........ thinking........

Paulo, Nice looking list there! See, already I'm reading song titles that are making me think 'ahh yes, that's a great song.' And you did it perfectly (arranged song- artist how I asked, and grouped songs in same points brackets) which will help to set the example... THANK YOU! (you made me use TWO exclamation marks, so that says something. lol ) Aims, glad the mathematics are making sense and that you'll be joining in soon. I know exactly what you mean about determining your favorites.... I have SEVERAL artists like that... I LOVE about 5 top songs and it's difficult to choose exactly which is the top top song... I keep going back and forth. I've changed my list (on paper) umpteen times. But somehow I think I'll end up going with what feels most favorite for me right now, as opposed to trying to choose the perfect song from an artist that I think *should* be the favorite for me. Hmmm, that made sense in my head. Anyway... yay. Dreamer, It's always a good idea to be properly prepared with food drink and calculator before making any kind of list. LOL. I like that in a list maker.

woman, you have no idea how! i mean, you do, but you're... normal (kind of), just imagine being me trying to do that. it took me two days to sum up about 150 songs which i separated into musical genre categories and picked out 10 out of which, which were then my 50 favorite. then guess what? the score system didn't allow me to use them all, so once again i started all over again... it was a hassle. and so far there's only one song i can think of that isn't there yet, i hope i don't remember anything else. i'm glad my list was the first cuz then i don't have to look at everyone else's and realize how many songs i forgot, otherwise by the end of these 2 months my list is gonna look nothing like it looks now.

LMAO! I've done this 'game' before on other message boards and it's AMAZING to see how peoples' lists get altered from their first post til the end of the game.. and quite funny, too. We were all yelling at each other for listing a song we'd forgotten... because of course we were all tempted to go back and edit our own. I mean you think you can think of everything, but chances are you will forget something... it can be neverending, trying to fit EVERYTHING you love in. That's one of the reasons I'm allowing edits... because I've been there, done that! The most enjoyable thing for me about doing this kind of game is getting to read about the huge VARIETY of songs. I really like seeing a title of a song that I haven't heard in years and that maybe I've forgotten all about.... or, alternatively, I like seeing when somebody puts 10 songs from an artist I've never heard of and all their other songs are things I already know I like...it makes me interested to check out the unknown artist, you know? Sharing music is always interesting....

Sharing music is always interesting.... and quite headach-y! right now i'm trying to figure out how to squeeze in "A Little More" in the list without altering anything too drastically given i already have to include 'Don't Speak'. No Doubt have the upper hand for having the song I've been listening to non-stop for almost 10 years (as opposed to Jennifer's, which I've only been listening to non-stop for a couple of months, lol), but maybe - just maybe i can squeeze in both. But first I need an aspirin... edit: FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!! Last night i was watching MTV and they showed 'Wicked Game', which is like, one of my top 10 songs ever! now i'm gonna have to edit bigtime because due to the points system, by including it in the top 10 i'll have to remove at least 4 songs from the bottom of the list, given i've wasted all my 500 points already. great. oh well, maybe i'll just replace a song in the top 10. will be hard to choose which, though.

Hey, Great list there, Dreamer! We have some definite favorites in common... although mine keep changing and some of them might not show up on my list when I'm done! I love The Forest and New Year's Day and Solitude Standing, just to name a few. Great going. Keep up the good (grueling) work everyone!

Also haven't even begun to weed through my mp3 files... I think I may have to cut some of these Edit2: How the HELL could I forget this song?! It's one of the greatest songs of all-time, I think. PMing someone just reminded me of it... Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel I think I'll leave each edit up so I can watch as my list grows all funky and strangelike... ;D Edit3: (don't worry, I'll post a new post when I've actually made a real list with points and all... these are just possible choices. Well, some of them. Some of them are definitely on the final list already...) I'm adding: Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush Cloudbusting - Kate Bush Untouchable Face (Fuck You) - Ani Difranco The Grudge - Tool Eyes On Me - Faye Wong Gone - The Sundays Fantasie Impromptu - Frederic Chopin Somebody - Veruca Salt I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever - Sonic Flood Out Tonight - Rent Coffee & TV - Blur Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac Landslide - Fleetwood Mac This is taking longer than I thought... time for bed. I'll add more in the next few days... And of course, these are just the songs that have made it past the first cut. Most of them will end up on the final list... but NOT all. Some songs are just going to HAVE to have 25 points ( Merman and Radical Dreamers~Without Stealing The Jewel are the only ones absolutely 100% locked into that status), so there won't be room for 100... I'm having SO much fun with this!
