Mixed CD/Tape help needed!

So hi! Back from my week long trip down south. During the long ride I had a lot of time to think about things... And I realized that I want to make a mixed CD of songs that are dedicated to a celebrity (like a fellow musician or a film star). I dunno why, I just thought it would be funny.

This idea came after listening to the song "Pumping Iron for Enya" which tells about a guy who is obsessed with Enya and hopes that if he puffs him up, Enya will notice him. It's hilarious! Another good song like that is "Natalie Portman" by Ozma.

So those two score high in the celeb-song chart. But also songs that have a dedication in the title (like "Song for Lennon" by Queen) or a well-known dedication although no one's mentioned ("You're So Vain") will do.

So anyone, if you know any of this kind of songs, lemme know! Also, if you can't come up with celebrity related songs, I also accept songs that are dedicated to someone ("Marianne" by Tori). Because I can't think songs myself, I have to expand the possibilities.

first of all, thanks for the heads up on the Enya song, i'm gonna check it out.

there's this Australian band whose name i can't remember, they have a song called 'Do It With Madonna' that mentions not only that bimbo but also Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera etc. 'Killing Me Softly' isn't dedicated to a celeb, but to a very famous song, 'American Pie'. so maybe that'll do too. then there's "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz. it doesn't mention him a single time, but you know, the title's there. there's Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" dedicated to Marylin Monroe. Garbage's "Shut Your Mouth" is also about Madonna. Aimee Mann's "Red Vines" and Fiona Apple's "Love Ridden" are both about film director Paul Thomas Anderson, who did 'Magnolia'. Pet Shop Boys' "Dreaming Of The Queen" mentions princess Diana a lot. and it was prior to her unfortunate passing too. Madonna's "Thief Of Hearts" is said to be a song to Anette Benning who started dating Warren Beatty soon after he'd stopped seeing Madonna. REM's "Everybody Hurts" was dedicated to River Phoenix after his death.

Oh yes, how could I have forgotten that Elton John song! Thanks so much for the songs, I think all of those will do (even Clint Eastwood, though I'm not sure how he's related to the song. I like it, by the way!).

Oh and the Enya song. I can't remember the guy's name, but K. found it online, the guy has it on his site or something. So I'm sure you'll find it

First, it's the Androids that Paulo was trying to think of... they did the song "Do It With Madonna".

Another song dedicated to River Phoenix is "River" by Natalie Merchant. It's very beautiful, but sad. It's from her Tigerlily cd.

Uh, don't forget Jay's favorite, "David Duchovny" by Bree Sharp.

Bananarama's "Robert DeNiro's Waiting" was always a favorite of mine....

Sean is yelling from the kitchen right now: "What about Betty Davis Eyes?! LOL That's Kim Carnes, of course.

A sweet but somber and politically-themed oldie but goodie is Dion's "Abraham, Martin and John" from the 60s.

I myself forgot two songs I like a lot: James K. Polk and Meet James Ensor ("belgium's famous painter") by They Might Be Giants. Ahhh... that band has taught me so many things, from American history to Physics!

Wonder if I should then also include Mulder and Scully by Catatonia. It's a cool song, though it's just *kinda* referring to the show. But then again, Bette Davis Eyes isn't really about Bette, right? Isn't it something like "She's got Bette Davis's eyes"? It's been ages since I last heard that. Hell, I'll include both of them!

I also remembered two more songs!

"Yeats's Grave" or something like that by The Cranberries and "Rivers" by Sugar Ray which is dedicated to the singer of Weezer, Rivers Cuomo and it's written and sung in a Weezer style. The only Sugar Ray song I like....
