Ok, so my husband tells me yesterday that I'm not allowed to go into any record stores today and buy anything because he wants to bring home a surprise for me... I know Tuesday is the usual release-day of the week and I was racking my brain to try to remember what was releasing this week... I knew it wasn't Nick Cave yet... but I couldn't remember. He liked that just fine and said I shouldn't try to remember because then I'd really be surprised. Well, this morning I remembered!!!! HE'S GONNA BRING ME THE NEW CAKE! (there's a Cake sticker sitting on my desk that I've been meaning to send to Carly, and that's what reminded me). (Right, Sean.. am I right? am I, huh?! lol) So, um once I have it I'll let you know how much I love it. I've already heard a few songs at their website. I've loved Cake since they first started a decade ago, as a little unknown Sacramento band. So I'm THRILLED that they are finally releasing their 5th album. I hope John says a lot of "HEY!"s on this album!!! Anyone else like Cake? Anyone else planning to check out this album? If so, come back here and ramble with me. ;D The album is titled "Pressure Chief". www.cakemusic.com/news.htmlGosh, I hope he's gonna bring me Cake! LOL *gets her dessert fork ready*

On Friday night, a bunch of us were drinking at my friend Sarah's house and I made her play Cake all damn night. Some people were getting annoyed - others thought it was cool shit. Anyway, Cake is coming to Minneapolis on Oct. 23rd and I will most likely go!!! PS: Hooray for Cake stickers!!!

Clay used to be into Cake when we first got together. I'm sure he didn't know they had a new one coming out. We were in the car the other day and 'short skirt, long jacket' came on and Ethne started "singing" along to the music.

Mary, did you get Cake. or what?! Sarah bought it yesterday and I listened to one song while we were supposed to be being productive at a meeting. It was worth it.

I did indeed receive my CAKE and was even able to eat it, too!!!!!!!! It was quite amusing, actually... I called Sean on his cellphone on his ride home from work and he mentioned that he had got the thing he was going to get for me... So I said, "oh, really... well, good. I have my dessert fork all ready!" And he said "You smart*ss!"... then quickly added, "Actually, you need to get your cobber all ready" I said "cobler? what?" He said "No, cobber, as in for eating KORN!" Bahaha! He bought HIS and HERS edible music yesterday. Anyway, I love the cd. I've listened to it 2 full times now and don't want to stop... I'm all about the one-word titles on this album so far: Wheels, Dime and Waiting are my most favorites. In fact, I'm rating Dime as one of my top 5 HAPPY-FEEL-GOOD songs of the year... it's right up there with Modest Mouse's Float On. ;D PS- Mandy, (nice to see you!) that is TOO CUTE about Ethne singing along.

ROFLMAO at Sean!
Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the album - not that I was really worried, but...

I bought the Tears for fears cd after your suggestion..now,another great one! Thanks again.. LOL, you're welcome. Enjoy! I think they had a lot of fun making this album. They do all kinds of synthesizer sounds and the songs seem to be less heavy than some of their earlier albums. Wait, "heavy".. that's really the wrong word to describe anything Cake... they are mostly tongue-in-cheek and clever and whimsical. I guess I think they are just doing even more of that on this album!

There was a bunch of us waiting in the hallway before class started this morning. I was listening to Cake and then looked over at the nearest bulletin board and it was a huge ad for the Cake concert that's in about a week and a half. Anyway, I turned to the girl next to me and I was like, 'I want that Cake poster!" She's like, "Take it." I thought about it for a minute and then got up and snatched it. hehe...

You should go to the show because they're cool live. Cake was my first rock concert. Awww. I've only listened to the new CD once, and I'm sorry to say I'm not a fan yet. It's good, but not as good as I was hoping.

It's good, but not as good as I was hoping. Miranda, don't be sorry. I tend to agree with you a bit there... I mean it's NOTHING like the quality that Fashion Nugget was, but it's definitely their trademark fun and quirky sound. It seems much lighter and full of musings more than stories, like their earlier songs. But after about 20 listens now I'm totally digging it! The only song I'm still not a fan of is End of The Movie. It's just kinda filler to me. But I LOVE Wheels, Waiting, The Palm of Your Hand, Dime, Tougher Than It Is, Take It All Away, and their Guitar Man cover!!!! Absolutely love the way Wheels ends. Not sure why the single No Phone is such a "big hit". I think it's ok, but not the strongest track. Really like Vince's trumpet on this album... it's so fun! and John's voice is still the same. He makes me laugh.. "aaaah, Alright!"... "yeah!"...."Hey, hey!".... Anway, give it time... the Cake will get sweeter.

i always hated that song. always will. i don't think i'd like it even if Tori sung it. i have no idea what Cake had in mind when they decided to cover that one.

I love this album, the more i listen it,the more i think that Cake had grown with bread and Beatles..they got a sense of melody very strong, and an irresistible rythm stuff..i was dancing while i drove the car today!
