I have a feeling that in a lot of places you'd get executed if you said one bad word about the Beatles ;D
Still -- I agree with you. There's no band that can top them. I mean, their recording career lasted only about 10 years (and you get all these bands these days that have been together much more than that) and look what they did: pretty much everything from catchy, poppy superficial "baby baby" songs to beautiful musings such as "A Day in the Life". And also you get the crazy experimental things they did just to play with people like "I Am The Walrus" -- John Lennon has been reported to write the lyrics after reading about people who tried to interpret his stuff too deeply. I Am The Walrus was his way of saying "Interpret this, you pretentious idiots!"
I really like John Lennon ;D
