Our trip to Tulsa was a fucking nightmare. I really don't have the energy to type every detail about it...but Krista was throwing up and there were several detours that took us way out of our way...and we got lost. It was awful. To top off a very exhausting day, we got lost on the way to pick Marshall up and ended up at the wrong house. The people were very nice and sent us in the right direction, but it was still frustrating. Then...we got mega lost on the way to the Brady Theatre. We ended up missing Rhett Miller's performance completely...and I was so afraid we were going to miss Tori, but fortunately we made it in time. I HATE Tulsa! The roads suck...it's hard to find anything, it's just complete madness. The parking for the concert was not organized at all...so I ended up parking illegally in spot that was just across the street from the theatre. Then we get inside and discover that the Brady Theatre is a shit hole in the wall venue. It was ugly and disgusting....people were smoking cigarettes and pot. Foruntely, once they started burning the sage, I couldn't smell the other smoke. The Brady was the complete opposite of all the beauty we experienced at the Midland Theatre. I was sooo disappointed. I almost couldn't believe Tori was performing there. It just seemed like too much of a dump for her.
However, despite my initial reaction, the show was the bomb. Tori was wearing my favourite outfit...the rainbow one!! She had white leather pointy high heeled boots on...and a pair of cut off jeans again. Her hair was kinda wavy with two ribbon deals twisted in it (like on the Oxygen concert). She also had a red choker type of necklace on. As soon as I saw her walk onto the stage, all my worries and frustrations of that day vanished. Everything we went through was worth the show she put on that night.
We were in the 2nd row on the far side of the Tori side of the stage. When she did songs on the Wurly/Rhodes, she was facing us dead on. When she was at the piano we could see her right side and back...but it was still an awesome view. We were so close!
Here is the amazing setlist!
-Wampum Prayer
-A Sorta Fairytale
-Little Earthquakes(she was so into this...and at one point near the end of the song...she was slobbering all over the microphone and it was dripping onto the keyboard! That probably sounds gross...but it's Tori!!)
-Strange Little Girl (woo hoo!! This rocked!)
-Cornflake Girl (I think this was even better in Tulsa than in Kansas City...which is saying a lot, b/c both nights it was awesome...especially those piano solos.)
-Honey (one of my favourite b-sides...great with the boys)
-Tombigbee (fucking orgasmic! This is one of the songs I had been praying she would play. She played it facing us...and she smiled several times really big and looked right at us! I was so happy!!)
-Black Dove (yaaaaay!)
-Wednesday
ROADSIDE CAFE
Tori told an adorable story that was similar to the one she told in Tulsa, but she added some more. She mentioned the Dorothy and Toto thing from Kansas City and then she said that Tash thinks she is the Mommy and that she has a British accent. The she told us that Tash asked where they were and Tori said 'Ok-la-ho-ma'...and Tash asked if they had a Big Ben and Tori said, well no...but they have 'clocks'...but it sounded like she said 'cocks!'...and everyone started laughing. Then Tori said that Tash didn't want to call it Oklahoma, so Tori asks, well what do you want to call it? And Tash answers "Okie-dokie-smokie!" Then Tori says, 'so you will forever be known as 'Okie-dokie-smokie'. It was sooo cute!
-Here. in my head (this was really mellow...and kind of set a different tone for a few songs...very pretty)
-Let it Be (this was fabulous...I have an mp3 of it from a diffferent tour...and it's one of my faves...hearing it live was simply amazing...I never expected it. The entire crowd was in tears, I think. Then at the end, Tori blew a kiss to the crowd.)
-Yes, Anastasia (this was a shortened version...she started in the middle of the song! I never imagined she would play this and I was a little confused by the way it started...it was absolutely lovely though. She did the we'll seeeeeeee part perfectly...the crowd went wild!)
BOYS COME BACK
-Bells for Her (just when you think it can't get any better...she plays this! I've been in love with the band version of this song since TVAB came out...it was so awesome to see her perform it)
-Riot Poof (woo!! one of my faves from Venus!)
-Scarlet's Walk (simply beautiful...I don't know what else to say)
-Take To The Sky (she did this with the 'I feel the earth move under my feet' verse put in...I loved it! also, the audience clapped throughout the whole thing in rhythm to the way Tori was banging on the piano! It was fun!)
-Bliss (I loved this when I heard it in Atlanta...and I still love it...)
-I Can't See New York (pretty much the same as KC...beautiful)
-iieee (again...just about the same as the night before, I was kind of hoping for Hotel...but I'm definitely not complaining)
Encore #1
-Taxi Ride
-Spark ( I needed this song...that's all I'm gonna say.)
Encore #2
-In the Springtime of His Voodoo (woooo!)
-Tear in Your Hand (I think this is the best ending song ever...maybe it's time, to wave goodbye now. I was so happy she chose this instead of 'Putting the Damage On' which was on the setlist.)
It's hard for me to say if this show was better than the KC show. In the sense of how close we were to Tori and that her setlist kicked ass...yes, it was. However, the beauty of the Midland Theatre added so much to the mood in Kansas City...and that is something that the Brady Theatre definitely lacked. So in a way...it's a tie.
