Well said, Orfeo. Wish I would like all of her albums like you (I still haven't gotten into To Venus and Back save for a few songs) but I totally hear you: comparing the works is kind of futile. I for one am glad that Tori surprises me with every album she releases. For this album I wished her to have the feel of FTCGH, and I think I got it -- but just in a very different manner than in Choirgirl. Now I realize that had The Beekeeper been a copy of the sound world of Choirgirl, I probably would've been disappointed at the end. I think that at the end of the day I like my artists renewing themselves ;D This also makes way for being able to have a favorite album from one artist for whatever I'm going through with my life.
Like with Ribbons Undone. To me it's too sugary, and very skip-worthy. HOWEVER! I know for sure, that once I have kids of my own (or kids of my sister's to look after) I will be able to relate to this song. It's great to know that even the songs I can't relate to right now can become topical for me.
About annoying reviews and such. Don't you all hate it how people say that she is mellowed out and thus boring? Have these people even listened to this new album? I just had a brief conversation with someone who said that because Beekeeper's music is nothing like her favorite, Earthquakes, she doesn't even want to give Beekeeper a chance. Ugh.

I doubt that anyone, despite the sales, with any sense would have thought a Milli Vanilli song was well written. Dude. I cannot believe you just said the M.V. words here in this toriforum. Bad, bad, dog. You are banned!!!! LOL

Jenni, I just read something earlier today (where? darnit, where did I read that? lol) about the specific word "mellow" as her latest stereotyped-description (regarding her music, not her) and what Tori had to say about it. It was interesting. I'll see if I can find it later. Trev, on a serious note, I really related to a lot of what you had to say there. Especially about listening to SW now that The Beekeeper is alive in action. Make me appreciate SW a little bit differently than before. OH! I remember I felt sort of the same way about SLG when SW came out, too. Even though it's "only a covers album" (not my sentiment necessarily, just the standard line that's often said) I suddenly had a newer appreciation for songs like New Age and Real Men in a bigger 7-album Tori context instead of the previous 6-album Tori one. (I couldn't even think of counting YKTR as a proper Tori ablum at the time of SLG's release because I hadn't heard all of it) I hope that made sense.

I haven’t had much time to hear 'The Beekeeper' but from the few times I have heard it I can’t say I think its one of her better albums, I do like it all the same.

I was like "what is this? how can I not be listenin to this all day long?" I adore SW way more than before BKP. And I believe this is great. I dont know why it is like this, but it's great great.

well....this will never be my favorite album... but of course i'll love it none the less... it's Tori for christ's sake.
so far only a couple of songs really grabbed me... Parasol Witness and Sweet the Sting is growing on me.
but i just can't help feeling like something is missing...
