Interview #4:

I interviewed Elizabeth on Sunday. A smooth talk where she tells us how she got into TF. We also learn what characteristics the essential part of the forum, i.e. its members, attracted her deeper into TF. In other words, we learn how she lived her story with TF. We are lucky to have her here. Let's have a closer look.


Redcloud: Hey Elizabeth! How are you?

Elizabeth: Good!

Redcloud: Are you listening to music right now?

Elizabeth: no, silence

Elizabeth: I like silence

Redcloud: yeah, it's enjoyable

Redcloud: it's a kind of music we should be able to listen to.

Elizabeth: yes! I know, like the icicles outside my window are melting...

Elizabeth: and I'm listening to that.

Redcloud: And the wind blowing in the leaves...

Redcloud: Some people always have to listen to something. I used to.

Elizabeth: yeah, I had a boyfriend who did,too.

Elizabeth: yeah, and the children are playing outside,too.

Redcloud: So, tell me, when did you run into ToriForum? How?

Elizabeth: very soon after it began (sure), Christmas 2002, two years ago. It was before she released Scarlet's Walk and I wanted to talk to someone about Tori's music.

Redcloud: Few people were fans of Tori among your relatives and friends?

Elizabeth: My husband was, but definitely not as much, and none of my friends or family-to the same degree.

Redcloud: So TF came and it fulfilled a need.

Elizabeth: right...at first to just talk about Tori and feel like other people understood.

Redcloud: Did you surf other forums about Tori Amos?

Elizabeth: I couldn't find any...I'm not really good at it...I found forums about Tori and sexual abuse, but that was pretty upsetting.

Redcloud: What did you like in TF at first?

Elizabeth: i liked the people right off, they seemed intelligent.

Redcloud: How so?

Elizabeth: I don't know, just like sympathetic intelligent people....some understood more about Tori's music than I could...I understood the lyrics...and I liked that.

Redcloud: Who did you feel closer to at the beginning?

Elizabeth: For instance, Trevor once pointed out that the piano part at the beginning of Hey Jupiter sounds like a phone ringing in Great Britain, and I was like yeah.

Redcloud: lol

Elizabeth: Mary...

Redcloud: why?

Elizabeth: well, usually people would just post, but we posted back and forth in "real time", like you and i are doing.

Redcloud: there is a more real conversation, you mean...

Elizabeth: exactly

Redcloud: There's a real exchange...

Elizabeth: you have to consider the other person definitely.

Elizabeth: Mary really reached out to everyone.

Redcloud: Have you kept a happy event in mind since you registered in TF?

Elizabeth: umm...

Elizabeth: sharing in other people's happinesses, it is sometimes nice around the holidays when lots of people are there

Redcloud: a joyful event in particular?

Elizabeth: it's nice when Tori is touring and some of us are able to see her and then post reviews...

Elizabeth: when Helen had her head shaved, we were all proud of her!

Redcloud: Especially if it's the opportunity to meet for the concerts

Elizabeth: when Matt and Paulo would post pictures of themselves...

Redcloud: Sorry but, What happened to Helen?

Elizabeth: or Mary would share a joyful story of her family..
Helen had her head shaved to encourage donations to breast cancer research! It was part of a thing there in Australia. That was a very warm time at the forum.

Redcloud: Oh OK, I was afraid of something sadder

Elizabeth: oh no, sorry.

Redcloud: It’s OK. Now have you kept a sad event in mind happening in TF?

Elizabeth: When we fight, it is always sad. There was a big fight about Iraq, about President Bush, and also when some people posted bad feelings towards some members...
It's disorienting.

Redcloud: It sure is!

Elizabeth: yeah.

Redcloud: Is there someone who you haven't sent IMs to or chatted with that you would like to get to know better?

Elizabeth: umm, almost everyone who posts often. Jenni and I have sent messages, but I think she's wonderful. I think Matt is so kind, and Helen. I think everyone.
I have only chatted with a few. I am sort of shy.

Redcloud: yeah, I understand.

Elizabeth: i think everyone on the forum is wonderful, which is why i stay.

Redcloud: Beyond the two things you've just told, are there phases that stand out in the History of TF as you lived it?

Elizabeth: Yes, two. When Haullie was the administrator, and afterwards, when Mary is.

Redcloud: How did the switch occur?

Elizabeth: there are also always cycles...when new people join, like you and josh...
Haullie had been sick and was concerned about herself. I think she needed to take care of her health. Her husband also went to Iraq, and her life was a bit disrupted. She asked Mary to take care of the forum.

Redcloud: Are there threads that you remember loving?

Elizabeth: yes,definitely. You?

Redcloud: Well now I see how difficult it is to be interviewed!! lmao!

Elizabeth: i like threads that update me on how people's lives, I love photos-but mostly I just enjoy certain people so much. For example, when Sean is able to post, I love reading what he has to say...

Redcloud: The threads in the Angry Snatch because people let their heart talk.

Elizabeth: Paulo's comments are always funny, Helen's sweet..etc.
Yes, often that is where you can reach out to people...

Redcloud: Are there people who you would like to come and post more often?

Elizabeth: Trevor is the first person I thought of!

Redcloud: What is the best moment to read and write in TF?

Elizabeth: when you need a break.

Redcloud: TF can be soothing, right?

Elizabeth: very. comforting...you find that,too?

Redcloud: yes. I see it as a welcoming, friendly place.

Elizabeth: that's good and how it should be...you wanted to join us?

Redcloud: Yes, I stayed a guest for about 5 minutes

Elizabeth: me too!

Redcloud: I had visited other forums before and this one was the best in my eyes. It was quite active, which is important to me and the different boards well organized. The Whatever and "hide the pointy objects" threads are a very good idea.

Elizabeth: yeah, it's important that people hang out often and over time. But they get too long!

Redcloud: What are you going to do after the interview?

Elizabeth: petite dejeuner! [editor's note: breakfast, but I think she meant lunch given the time]

2. Shave for a Cure is about to be on in Australia again. I'm not as brave as Helen... although dyeing your hair an overly vibrant colour is also allowed. Hmmm, would I look good with bright blue hair?...

3. For you, I will try to post a bit more often. Once I'm in my new house with my own net connection it might happen, or alternatively I'll spend so much time looking after my house that it won't!

For my 5th interview, I had the pleasure to interview Julie, a rather discreet member of TF, who we’d like to see more. She tells us how she found TF and why it immediately appealed to her. She also had to change her username some time in the past. We are going to see why.


Redcloud: Hi Julie, how are you?

Julie: I'm good.

Redcloud: please have a seat!

Julie: *seated*

Redcloud: What were you doing before coming here?

Julie: Here, as in the interview or the Tori Forum?

Redcloud: before the interview

Julie: Eating breakfast.

Redcloud: Can I ask you what it was like?

Julie: My breakfast?

Redcloud: yup

Julie: It was good. I had Banana Nut Crunch cereal.

Redcloud: When did you discover TF and how?

Julie: I was Tori forum surfing about a year ago and found it.

Julie: Actually about 2 years ago.

Redcloud: Before that, had you surfed other forums about Tori Amos?

Julie: Not really. It was my first Tori forum.

Redcloud: So you ran into TF right at once and got used to it...

Julie: You could say that.

Redcloud: What did you like in TF?

Julie: The members. They were interesting and fun to talk with.

Julie: I liked the graphics they made.

Redcloud: Who did you feel closer to at first?

Julie: Haullie and Jana and one other member that I forget her name.

Redcloud: why them?

Julie: Haullie and I had voice chats on Yahoo! IM and we shared Tori stories. Jana and I met at a Madison Tori show and I recognized her and then we planned a meeting at a Chicago Tori show and talked. We've been friends ever since.

Redcloud: And then, who have you enjoyed meeting or chatting with so far?

Julie: Haullie, Jana, and you.

Redcloud: Thanks

Julie: And all the others of course. But specifically.

Redcloud: Do you remember particular events in TF that you loved living?

Julie: I just joined again for the second time so I'm an old member that left a while ago, and now I'm new again so I don't know.

Redcloud: Were you Julie14?

Julie: Yes, I was.

Redcloud: OK

Redcloud: Why did you change your username?

Julie: When I joined 2 years ago I signed up for that screen name and then when I left I forgot what password went with that screen name so when I returned just a month ago I signed up for a different screen name.

Redcloud: You wanted to keep your first name in it

Julie: Yes

Redcloud: Same question for an sad event if you can remember one.

Julie: No, I don't remember. I'm fairly new and don't remember anything in particular from 2 years ago.

Redcloud: What members who you haven't sent IMs to or chatted with would you like to get to know better?

Julie: Anyone really. No one in particular.

Redcloud: What is the best song to listen to when you read and write in TF?

Julie: Tori music.

Redcloud: And if you exclude her...

Julie: Alanis Morissette.

Redcloud: Are there threads of the past that are engraved in your memory?

Julie: "With a message from my heart." by Natasha.That's a fairly recent one, I don't remember ones from 2 years ago though.

Redcloud: Why this one?

Julie: Because it's so emotional and written so well.

Redcloud: What question did you like least?

Julie: Um...none, they were all fine.

Redcloud: What question did you like most?

Julie: I guess the thread that engraved in your memory one.

Interview #6:

This is the first interview with two interviewers. I had the pleasure to do this interview with BeulahJosh . I hope it's not the last one. Still, it's quite difficult to organize since three people have to be available at the same time. We asked Aimee how she started in TF and what she likes in TF. A closer look at our favorite kiwi.


Redcloud: Hello Aimee!

Josh: Hi aimee

Aimee: ok

Aimee: So what, are you both the interviewers?

Redcloud: Yes!

Josh: What were you doing before you came online and talked to us?

Aimee: Sleeping....... only got up about half an hour ago

Josh: Me too lol

Redcloud: When did you discover TFand how?

Aimee: um.... march 2003... I was on hereinmyhead.com and saw a link to it. Lurked for about 10 mins or so and then joined. i always join forums rather than lurk. i just dont stick around in all forums ;-)

Redcloud: Were you already in another forum?

Aimee: Nope, no other forums before torum

Josh: What made you stick around?

Aimee: I don't know, really.... I always find it hard to start out on a new forum coz everyone knows each other etc... i'll admit that for quite some time i didnt feel like I fitted in at TF, but for some reason I just stuck it out? hehe..
And was glad I did when I finally started to get to know people better

Redcloud: What did you like in TF?

Aimee: What did I like in TF? umm... the craziness :-)
I must've thought "oh cool, weirdos! im home...." hehe

Josh: lmao...Thats exactly true lol

Redcloud: How crazy were they?

Aimee: hahaha just crazy enough ;-) No, just in the way that you could tell people were having fun, which was nice.

Josh: Do you remember anything really great in particular?

Aimee: I dunno.... i know others have said this, but for me it's always really happy/exciting when someone announces that they're pregnant.

Josh: Babies are exciting

Aimee: It doesn't feel that long ago that Mandy first told us about expecting Ethne..and now of course Sam has Kevin - which we all knew about from the start too. time really flies i guess

Redcloud: Do you remember something you found sad?

Aimee: Not really.............. I mean, people have mentioned the dramas a year or more ago when some members left, but that was more irritating to me than sad.

Josh: I missed all that

Aimee: because I didnt get involved in it and just sorta had to watch from the sidelines, because I liked people on both sides. and it doesnt really make sad anyway because ive kept in touch with a couple of the people that left..
So it's all good really.

Josh: Who did you become friends with first?

Aimee: HAHA! I’ve been thinking about this because of reading your other interviews I got a headstart.. ;-)

Aimee: I didnt really come up with a real answer though... I mean, I liked everyone from the start and got along with them ok, but i think Jason was my first actual friend on TF, and he didn't join for a while after I did...
I do remember though in the very early days of being a member, Nattie visited my crappy little website and left a message in the guestbook. I thought that was really sweet... I don't think I ever told her that either.

Josh: aww lol

Aimee: So even though we never really got to know each other very well, she was maybe the first person that stood out as being really nice when I first joined.

Redcloud: Is there someone who left you'd like to see back?

Aimee: ummm................. I don't know? I’m having trouble thinking of anyone. Like I said, I still talk to a couple of those people that left in the great drama... lol
So i dont need them to come back. And anyone else that's left, I obviously didn't know very well anyway

Josh: True.
Is there anyone now that you'd like to get to know better?

Aimee: I know some people dont visit as often lately, but that doesn't mean they've actually left, so that doesn't really count, does it?

Josh: no

Redcloud: I'd say no.

Aimee: Yeah, sure. Theres a handful of people that I really love talking to through the forum but we don't really talk anywhere else besides that.

Redcloud: Who for instance?

Aimee: hmmm.... well, Hels for one. Especially since I actually met her and all.

What are your favorite kind of threads?

Aimee: the ones that aren't boring ;-)
