Girl Disappearing
7am
So it begins again
1 zip
Favoring familiar silhouettes
Left whips and chians
Behind I'm boycotting trends
It's my new look this season
Riding on backs
Of palominos
Primed for an attack
It's as good
As good
As it gets
With girl disappearing
What on Earth's occuring?
'Cause she's right in front of me
A girl disappearing
To some secret prison
Behind her eyes
She whispers
"Big surprise.
There was no protection
By this urban light
So I'm running to
A constellation
Where they can still
See you."
Envy can spread
Herself so thinly
She slipped in
Before I could notice it
In my own war
Blood in the cherry zone
When they
Pit woman against feminist
Riding on backs
Of palominos
Ditching the blond shell
Working her hell
On that red carpet
So I'm running to
A constellation
Where they can still
See you"
Then I'm running too
If that's a consolation
'Cause I can still
See you
I think this song is about young, dumb Hollywood women who are playing dumb on purpose and some who are just plan dumb for real and everyone soaking it in and loving it and encouraging it as a great gimic when it's really damaging to the image and portrayal of women. Clyde is saying that you can escape this. This is a girl disappearing, losing herself and becoming nothing but an object, but because she has the potential to get out of this...kinda like "Amber Waves", Clyde can still see her. Clyde is calling these girls mannerisms and speech "working hell on the red carpet" and that she, Clyde, is boycotting trends because she wants to be nothing like them. On a side note, I have to say, I absolutely love the change in lyrics for the ongoing constellation...to consolation...very clever.
