You could've had me, boy Right there beside you...
God, I love when she sings that part.
This song totally grabbed me and hasn't let go yet. I love the sway of the chorus. The choir in the background vocals gives this song a really cool depth, I think.
Tori has said that this album is about exploring the "Creative Mothers". I think this song is their backbone.
It's interesting how she capitalizes so many meaningful (or seemingly meaningful, anyway) words in the lyrics for the whole album. In this song "Watchtower" seems to have a religious connotation. And I get the feeling this might be another Mary M song? Of course, after watching the dvd and hearing her comments about all that, I'm thinking every song is like that, lol.
This is one of my top favorites. Well, ok, the 2nd tier of top favorites, but right up there.

I really hope Tori makes a "Mother Revolution" t-shirt for the tour. I'll buy one. ;D

My immediate thought was "Oh, All Along The Watchtower, that Jimi Hendrix song*" because she had some Mary/Jimi Hendrix references before. I'm kinda hoping it wouldn't be too much of a religious connotation, because then Watchtower only reminds me of that Jehova's Witness lady who harrassed me in the park a couple of summers ago, and the only way I could get her to leave was to accept some of her Watchtowers! (*Ok, I do know that it's originally by Dylan, but Tori has seemed to like Jimi more than Bob, hehe)

But now I'm not so sure. I just love those lines, though. "All along the watchtower... for the strange days upon us." There's something slightly spooky that seeps into me when I hear them. Oh, and I'm sure Tori is more of Jimi Watchtower fan than a Dylan one. Me, too.

It's driving me crazy, though, because the piano in it reminds me of some other song (not a Tori song, I don't think) but I can't figure it out. For some reason I want to say something Carly Simon, but I could be way off! It's just.... something. Hmmm.

I love this song. My favorite part is when she sings "you could've had me right there beside you". I just sounds so tearful and desparate (not in a bad pittiful way but in a sympathetic way).
This is my interpretation of it:
I think this song is about God in whatever sense of that you believe it is. If you do believe in God then I am assuming you consider he or she a protector, a concerned and caring being that watches over you and in "Mother Revolution" she is concerned with her Earth to which she gave birth to (so to speak) and so many horrible things are happening to her baby like war, poverty, starvation, abuse, and more. She is crying out for these creatures that are on her child trying to destroy her!
