I finally picked up My Sister's Keeper yesterday. I have a bunch of housework to do today, so I'm forcing myself to put it down. But it's hard!

I'm waiting for My Sister's Keeper (the Finnish translation, blech) to be returned to the library, then I can hop on the apparently very good bandwagon!
Currently reading Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. Why does this book make me think of Carly? Seriously. Have I heard you talk about it?

Why does this book make me think of Carly? Seriously. Have I heard you talk about it? Yeah, you've probably heard me talk about it. I think I'm going to re-read it. I give up on Surfacing, for the time being.

I'm reading a Forgotten Realms book now, it's Elminster in Myth Drannon. It's second book to Elminster saga and it's written by Ed Greenwood. ^^ Good stuff.

Veela--I read it last summer thinking that it's funny like Bridget Jones or something like that. I ended up liking it a lot! you know, that is what i was expecting -- a sort of light hearted, funny girlie read. but as of now, that is not at all the vibe i'm getting from it. i like it a lot but there are some deep things happening. it's taking me forever since i never have time to read but i'll let you know when i'm done!

A Long Way Down - Nick Hornby
Matt, I can't remember if you said what you thought of it. I hope it's as amusing as High Fidelity and/or About A Boy, I really enjoyed those (High Fidelity especially).

I'm having a break from the Catchy to read the second in a trilogy called Predator's Gold by Philip Reeve--I figured I'd read it over the weekend so that I can return it to my prof asap and get perchance the third book from him.

About A Boy is hilarious! It's quite different to the movie... which is good (though I admit to liking that movie) - it kind of made more sense in a way. And it's funnier of course. Still haven't made a dent in A Long Way Down - just hadn't been reading much last week. Will fix that this week

The latest I have read from him was How to Be Good, which left me kind of ambivalent, though I still liked it.
Have you guys read Fever Pitch? Now, I used to support Liverpool in soccer, but because they always had some terrible scandals with cocaine or prostitutes and, well, they sucked I abandoned them after some years to just adore Ryan Giggs. So I can relate to the story about being a fan of something one hates although I've never been near as crazy about soccer as he is! The book was hilarious, and I was terribly disappointed in the American version of the movie, which was of course about baseball.
I saw the original version just because of Colin Firth, but even he didn't quite manage to capture the book's atmosphere.

I'm still reading the Forgotten Realms book I mentioned earlier but I picked up a book from library on Monday which I'm reading now. It's not very long and it's different kind of book. It consists of articles and views about fantasy literature, especially children's and young people's fantasy books but also fantasy as whole because sometimes it's hard to tell is the fantasy book mentioned for young people or adults. And it's from Finnish view, talks about Finland's growing fantasy scene. It has articles from several people. Was funny to notice that during the time I've read fantasy, I've become almost "conservative fantasy reader", I think the true fantasy is Tolkien type fantasy where the milieu is feodal type independent fantasy world. In other words, high fantasy. And I enjoy even books that are generally concidered as mass produced fantasy like Forgotten Realms. But I enjoy low fantasy too, books that have fantastic elements but aren't high fantasy. Funny, I know, and others think totally different. Lol, genres of books, movies, music etc. is the most complex thing in the world!!!

Yeah I read a bunch of reviews on amazon about both A Long Way Down and How To Be Good and got the general vibe that HTBG wasn't so great. So I bought ALWD instead. You should give High Fidelity a go Hey - if it's Colin Firth, then it can't be a complete waste of time

Aims--I actually have read High Fidelity, and it's my favorite! My high school era obsession of making perfect mixed tapes to friends might've had something to do with me taking a liking to the book, hehe. Did you like the movie? At first I wasn't sure whether to like Dick's character (it was so different), but then I thought that it was maybe more with the times to have him be this weirdo emo guy who listens to BELLE AND SEBASTIAN! Yay! I bought this collection of Nick Hornby books a few years ago: it included High Fidelity, About a Boy and Fever Pitch. Then I lent it to K. to take onto a plane, and it's been in Seattle ever since I want to reread it!
