On second thought, maybe we should just have our own thread about it! Don't want to discourage any other general Neil Gaiman talk over in his thread after all Jenni: this is ok to have in this forum right?? It's book related! *puppy dog stare* So Tanja, the pirate character De Niro plays.. I'm still not 100% sure, but I think he must be part of that boat that sails through the sky? I think Tristram and Yvaine (sp? I can't remember how to spell her name and I'm too lazy to check) meet up with him and his crew when they're on the way back to Tristram's village and they give them a lift for a lot of the way. Do you know what I'm talking about? I've read it twice but I still feel like I've forgotten stuff.

Oh really?? COOL! I didn't even know there was an illustrated version out until about a week ago. I'm definately going to look into getting myself a copy. Make sure you come back and gush over how lovely it is once it arrives!

Oh cool! I never would have heard of this movie if not for this message board! I don't know about Claire Danes, though. Never been a big fan of hers. Or Sienna Miller - ugh, thank God she's playing the cow girlfriend. I really hope they use Tori Amos as the tree. As the reviewer said, they should!

Apparently it's not Tori... it's a shame - and Neil said he really wanted her to do it and told the studio how important it'd be to a lot of people but yeah. Bummer. Oh well, it's gonna be good anyway I'm sure I haven't noticed any recent news about it in Neil's journal lately (I have the feed on my livejournal friends page) - but that's probably just because I'm a major skim-reader.. hehe.

Jenni: this is ok to have in this forum right?? It's book related! *puppy dog stare* Of course ;D (And even if it wasn't, just coming up with a erm, connection, would suffice ) I haven't read Stardust yet and am very ashamed about it. So I have to read the book before I delve deeper into this thread!

Yeah read the book, it's wonderful And I'd definately say read it before you see the movie! I'm really excited to see the movie though... haven't heard a lot about it since those early test screenings, but the reviews were pretty glowing.

I just read this at undented, it's old though:
In his most recent journal entry, Neil includes a link to an article in the Hollywood Reporter’s “Risky Biz Blog” in which Stardust scriptwriter, Jane Goldman, confirms that they would like to have Tori do the voice of the tree if a deal can be negotiated. Having finished filming earlier this month, the movie is currently in post-production and is scheduled for theatrical release in March, 2007.
It'd be cool if she was the tree, does anyone know if she is? xo

Still haven't seen any recent word on it :\ *sigh* I did read in his journal a few weeks ago that they were cutting the tree scene anyway? But yeah, fingers crossed for it maybe being on the dvd..

My mum's got a cold at the moment so she stayed home from work yesterday. She told me she watched Ellen's talk show and Michelle Pfeiffer was on it, talking about Starust. They showed a clip from it when she turns from haggard and old to young and beautiful. Yay..

^ yeah, I can't wait for The Golden Compass! I tried to get my sister to read the books but she didn't even bother finishing Nothern Lights, which pissed me off because I know if she gave it a chance she'd really love the series as a whole.
So as it stands, I might have to go see this movie alone. Then again, people who are too lazy to read the books often end up enjoying the movie? hehe

My sister was like that with Harry Potter too.. after Goblet of Fire I managed to convince her to read the books though, and she loved them. At our local theatre complex they have this fancy one where you pay more to sit in massive comfy chairs and get served food and drinks etc. That's our little ritual now for new Harry Potter movies - it's the only thing worth spending all that extra money on Ooh is there a thing from Tori on Neverwhere? Had never even noticed that. I heard a rumour about a movie version of that... I hope it's true, the BBC mini series wasn't as great as it could've been with the right funding.
