'The Dent' Might Close?

Dear Toriforum,

I'm very saddened by Mikewhy's worries about having to maybe close down 'The Dent'. I'm posting my concerns here. If anyone has any ideas on how we could possibly help Mikewhy keep The Dent going please let me know and I can always relay the message. As most of you here understand 'The Dent' has been our own personal Pow Wow for many years. 7 years to be exact. It has been virtually our only plac of gathering for the latest and greatest on Tori Amos news. If The Dent closes we will have no other stomping ground for rare news. People's web sites were built useing The Dent. Had it not been for Mikewhy and his dedication to all of us where would we have found all of the information we know today? We would have had it so much harder and that is no joke. Of course we could have searched and found but his web site made it simple and organized for all of us. But alas it is costing Mikewhy so much money to maintain The Dent. What Costs me 16 bucks a month to run 'All These Years' costs Mikewhy $248.00 a month simply on server space for older news items and an expanded e-mail account because he gets so much e-mail a day. If you think about it, on top of his daily bills, debts and wanting to plan to get married some day, it's just not financially working out for him. This worries all of us but it is understandable. Now a lot of you are probably thinking what maybe a lot of you are thinking, Mikewhy decided to start The Dent, no one asked him to do this, he could always erase his stuff or put it in a free server or a bunch of little free servers to help provide more room for the important stuff. But the fact remains he could have always done something else with his time but instead he dedicated it to us. And by our acceptance and need for the latest Tori Amos news and announcements that was our call for more and more and in doing so we do infact ask for this and should help support more. Just by giving our ideas. We don't have to donate but we can come up with ideas. Or we can send him support because he needs our support and understanding right now.

and read whats going on with 'The Dent' I would highly appriciate it. I would appriciate the support. I don't know what we would do without the support of his web site. We would be kind of lost if you think about it I mean that is truly how important it is for us. To be completely honest toriamos.com doesn't even come close by a hair to what The Dent has given to us over these past 7 wonderful years.

I know I read about that. I wish I could help. I hope ppl relize his situation and start helping out so the dent can stay alive! I cannot imagine paying that much for a website, that is just CRAZY!!

I like RaisinGrrl's idea. It's not like a fundraiser, just an idea to keep things going. Of course you'd have to tell Mikewhy about it first though if you planned on going through with it. I suggested for him to create a cafe press store. It helps tremendously for our fundraiser so I know it could help him.

i think it would be nice to go through with it. it would be a terrible thing to see 'the dent' go. i don't want it to be a fundraiser (like haullie said), more of like a way to help him right now. i'm sure if he could get enough money to help with his site, it would seem likely that he would be able to keep it going. i know all of us know how it feels to owe money, trying to buy a house, or get married, everything in life comes with a cost, and unfortunatly it's mostly money. if everyone in the tori community donated even 50 cents, he could have enough, you know? we'll see how it goes. i'm going to try to find somewhere to set up an account, and talk to mikewhy. i will keep you updated. although, i may need some help with the whole account thing, maybe, we'll see. i'll start by emailing mikewhy.

I would hate to see the dent gone. It's been around as long as I've been a Tori fan. A staple, you know? I hope we're able to help enough for Mikewhy to keep the site.

I'd be sad with the dent closed. At last, i only knew many things about Tori on the dent...

The dent is the first Tori Amos web site for me.. It's everything for us..

I can't help here in brazil, but i would to.

I was thinking for the time being, to put a link on my index page linked on The Dent Dilema.

But if i thinking about new idea, and sure i'll show it...

I hope this is can be resolved...

Oh-NO!

It would be so hard on all of us to see the Dent go. There has to be a way to helpout Mikewhy and help to keep the dent going. Nearly every Tori fan online relies on The Dent which is a LOT of people. Both Raisangrrl's and Haullie's ideas are great -- I certainly would contribute. It looks, from his recent update on that page, like he will be incorporating both of those ideas. I really hope that it all works out. My thoughts are with him.
