This thread is all about my thoughts and opinions about the t.v. program "Living With Michael Jackson" which was a 20/20 special, aired at 8:00pm on February 6th 2003. This thread is probably going to be really messy and all over, but here I go:
Michael talkes about his childhood stardom and his musical talent, saying it was a gift from god. I totally agree with that, he is in more ways then one a musical genius. When you think of someone creating and having a career history such as his, it becomes clear that Michael really does have some kind of magical ability to make music the reaches to people. Michael then goes on to talk about the things he likes to do: climb trees, have water balloon fights and ride his man-made rides in Neverland. This childlike state of mind makes it obvious that Michael wants to re-gain his lost childhood (one that is not full of abuse); his personal hero is Peter Pan, figures. I don't think him liking those things is really not so bad, I found his wishing tree to be very cool. But he needs to grow up too. He seems to hide himself away from reality. When they go shopping in Vegas, Michael picks out almost everything in the store! (he has excellent taste by the way) They also talk in Vegas about Michaels first sexual experience, he was damn sacred, and I think he always thought of sex as something that was almost annoying. Then they talk about Michael's very abusive father, who would beat them with belts and house hold objects, Michael starts crying and I felt very bad for him. He had a hard time answering those questions (you can tell he hates his past). I can understand why Michael wants so badly to re-live his childhood. He talks about how his father and brothers would make fun of his nose as a teenager..... I understand why he would want to "look like someone else", and I don't think people really realize how damaging words can be. His children - that is another story. Both Prince and Paris were wearing beautiful masks (when the interviewer met them) as so to protect them from the media. Jackson seems like a great father, saying that he would never hit his children as his father once did. The interviewer also got to meet Prince Michael II, literally right after the so called "balcony dropping" event. After asking Michael about the event, Michael said that he was holding Prince "tight and stong" and was only trying to show his fans below his new baby as they were chanting to see the young child. I think this is true, I don't believe Michael would ever really harm his children knowing how he feels about children in general. Micheal does get over excited when crowds of fans are around him sometimes though. He says that he loves his children. Then there comes the whole "Michael and children" question. Micheal cliams that he does allow children to sleep in his bed while he sleeps on the floor because the children (which are also his good friends) he invites over want to "stay with him". He also says that it is not at all sexual, and he has no problem with it and neither do the parents of these children. However, the interviewer could not make him undertand why others might find a problem with that. I personally think that Michael cares a lot for all children and I don't think he means any harm. Everyone always makes it out like it is so bad, but I don't think that is the case. What is so wrong with letting a child sleep in the same room with you? Michael said in the interview (while sobbing) that he wants to do everything he possible can for the "human condition", he says that maybe if more parents would take the time to care and show more love to their children things will improve, and I agree totally with that point. They reason I think people seem to have a problem with Michael and children is because of the society we live in; because everything today is based around sex, they asume that "going to bed" means "sex". Also, Micheal says he as only had two plastic surgeries on his face, which I just don't believe, I think he has had more. I think he wants to keep re-making himself..... it seems like he wants to run away from his past as much as possible, though I can understand why and I do not hold that against him at all. It is true he is not the most beautiful person to look at, but I think the public seem to deem him as a "freak" just because of they way he looks. If he never had any plactic surgeries then people would be less likely to think of him and his family as "wierd", and I think that judging him is just wrong. All in all....... (and I know I am leaving or forgetting so many more points) but all in all I thought the special was revealing, both good and bad things. It made me see Michael in a new positive light, I saw the child in him, the father, and the talented man he always was. Though I think the interview at some points made Michael seem "bad", and I think they almost wanted to show him in a "bad light". See, I still do not see what is so bad about Michael as so many people do. I think he is a kind man, that has good intentions. I do think he needs to put his feet on the ground sometimes though, and realize what reality is really like for him. However, he does seem like a good father. I did not like how the interviewer made Micheal out to be so awful afterwards, I did not agree with his comments about Micheal being disturbing, I don't think Michael is disturbing at all. I think Michael need more love in his life, I think that is what he is really missing...... that is why he needs and loves his kids so much. It is so clear to me that he needs more love in his life (the love he did not get as a child). It is also clear that he is still dealing with individualism, and childhood memories. Anyway, I will write more about this later, because for some reason I am very opinionated about Mr. Jackson, as much as I am an admirer.
The public have totally made Michael out to be this weird awful person, which from what I know is just not the case. It is sad what the media have done to him and his career - it is pitiful and no one has the right to make such claims without knowlegde. It is true they did advertise the speical as a kind of "freak show" in which we can all see Michael being the "freak" that he "really is". Even in the cemercials they would show the most "shocking" clips without letting Michael explain futher (only then will you realize the truth). I will never fully understand why people are so quick to crucify Michael for EVERYTHING he does! They make a joke out of him, it is awful. Sean you said the worst thing Michael could have done is have children, I know what you mean when you say that, but why should'nt he have children? If that is what he really wants then the media should not stop him from doing so. All this is the fault of the media and social class. The world we live in today is all based around image and so called "do's and don'ts", so when someone is not like everyone else society attacks them, the fomula is really very simple. Same goes with Michael's 1993 case - Can you honestly tell me MJ did what everyone is accusing him off? No, because it's all based on hearsay and assumptions with no evidence. Until someone shows me a tape of him undressing and sexually molesting a child I will never believe it. Personally I think there is a possiblitly that it was all a plan to get some of Michaels money, and looking at the facts, that is more then likely true (but this is a whole new thread). I avoid listening to all the scandals because they are really just like rumours in my opinion. Michael is still, in my eyes, a great artist and that is what is the most important thing - the music.
