Feeling like the "gay friend"

Sorry if the topic title offended anyone, but I think it shows what I'm talking about and I'm honestly not in the right frame of mind to think about how to put it properly. I figured there are a lot of women on this board and you all seem really cool and intelligent so maybe I could ask for a little insight on this?
Ok I feel really stupid. I'm like the nicest, fairest, most non-judgmental person I know of and I'm sick of it. I can't help that I like to put other peoples' happiness before my own it's just who I am and what I do. Girls hang all over me and tell me that they love me even though I'm just a friend to them. Sure, I care about them very much and I know they care about me but they don't like me "like that". They check out and talk about the hot guys they want to meet and all that and I offer advice as needed or maybe shield them from more aggressive guys who just can't take a hint when we're hanging out or whatever. I could honestly give a fuck about all that, to me it's just stupid girl stuff but I do want to make sure my friends are ok.
Rambling...
Anyway, the relationships I have with my female friends are great, but what the hell? Is there any chance a girl will take more than a friendly interest in me or do I have to change who I am and be an asshole to them? Maybe beat them like their ex-boyfriends who they are still so much in love with? I'm really confused.

I think a lot of girls are like that when they are younger. You may have to look outside your group, to someone you don't know, who is a little more true to herself. There are girls like this, but they aare usually not as visible as the other girls.
you can look for someone who doesn't know you yet, because your friends seem to think of you as one of them, and, as a girl, it's hard to look at a guy you think of as a friend as something else.someone more mature?

ive come to the realization women are insane!
im sorry to hear another nice guy finishing last...but i gurantee when u find someone all these girls will be up ur ass...not literally...life is nuts!

Girls are pretty stupid sometimes. All my friends are guys except for one because I can't stand the games girls play. It's not to say they're all like that, because I know some really great girls.
I would also suggest going out with girls who aren't in your "group". It might make things easier.

I actually have gone out with a few guys that I was friends with and I wasn't really attracted to at first, some girls have no idea what they have sometimes I guess. At one point or another they finally mature in that sense and look for the nice guys and believe me then you'll be the one they'll be after.
