Which of tori's songs were the hardest for you to get into? Are there any now that you are still having a hard time fully loving?
Here are mine:
Past The Mission: I remember specifically hearing this song for the first time, and thinking it was a little too.. I don't know how to really explain it. Something about the melody of the verses, it really didn't strike me as anything special at that point. But now, it's one of my favorite tori songs!
Not The Red Baron: The entire boys for pele album was a little tough to swallow at first listen besides a few songs, but I remember that this song was especially hard for me to like. I used to distinctly NOT like it for a long time, but finally I gave it a chance and it grew on me. Before I thought it was monotone and boring, but now I find the peace and beauty of the piano and her smooth, amazing vocals are great. I love the ending "the prettiest red ribbons..."
Carnival: I heard this song once, and then put it away and didn't listen to it for about a year i think. I was just kind of like "what the heck?" But I let it grow on me, like all of them, and later I realized it's actually a cover which helped because I wasn't to thrilled about the lyrics the first time I heard it.
Don't Make Me Come To Vegas: It may have been because I was letting the other songs get more play on my cd player, but I really didn't get very into this song at first. I liked the beat, but for some reason it really wasn't resonating as a keeper for a while. But I think about a month ago I really started to get into it.
Songs I'm STILL having a hard time getting into:
Datura: I really have a love/hate relationship with this one. AT times I really like it, and at other times I wonder why tori even made the song.
Happiness Is A Warm Gun: This is probably my least favorite tori song.

Before I thought it was monotone and boring, but now I find the peace and beauty of the piano and her smooth, amazing vocals are great. I love the ending "the prettiest red ribbons..." exactly! exactly!! I also found it hard to get into: Suede - the beat disturbed me at first....I kept waiting for something to happen at the beginning. The only part I liked right off the bat was the ending!....but now I love it. Yes Anastasia - mostly because of the length, but now I savor each second! Datura- it was trippy & I wasn't looking to be 'tripped' i guess! LOL But it's so beautiful....I love when she says orange jasmine.....my favorite. hmmm, there are probably more & certainly a few b-sides too.....but can't think right now! (note: the opposite is true, too.....there are a few Tori songs that I immediately fell in love with when I heard them on the albums for the first time: Winter, Father Lucifer, Putting the Damage On, Jackie's Strength, Spring Haze, Sweet Sangria, Taxi Ride, and Bachelorette to name a few.....But that's another thread entirely )

I would have to say I'm not a really big fan of Raining Blood, Carnival, and I haven't really gotten into Your Cloud.

China, Bells for Her, Not the Red Baron, and Suede were really hard for me to get into, but the only one I still don't really like is Not the Red Baron.

China! And I still just can't get into it... Let's see, Concertina was hard for me at first but I've gotten past that. I'm trying to get into Amber Waves. That song..I don't know..it just doesn't work with me. Pandora's Aquarium didn't agree with me for months. It took a trip to Hawaii and being in stuck in fog on top of a volcanic crater to get me into that one lol. But now I love it

The one song that TOTALLY comes to mind that I have never been able to get into is Professional Widow. I have tried, but it's just too far out there for me.

Well, I'd say China... but the first time I heard it.. I loved it. And then she and I had a falling out. And I didn't listen to her for a long time. But I love her again and we get along quite well now.
Datura and I don't get on very well. I have a hard time getting into that song. Much as I love Tori's speaking voice, I find it very hard to make it through that entire song. Even now.
A lot of the SLG album wasn't easy for me to like. I think this has to do with the fact that Tori didn't write those songs. They feel... well, less Tori, to me.

Winter and Happy Phantom, Precious Things
Waitress was really hard at first, I think because it's so raw and I was never a waitress
Almost all of the songs between the 1st and Hey Jupiter on Boys For Pele. I think partly because they are also so raw and the whole 1st part of the album feels so chaotic to me and angry
You know what song I can't get into?Sugar, for the same reasons...Ijust always felt like "Bring me sugar?I know the robins bring bring me many things but" Kind of like, and what's she gonna bring him?Why does he have to do that?
But I loved the Red Baron from the moment I heard it...its so simple and pretty and its like a lament...I love the ending too, bliss, "many there know some girls with red ribbons, the prettiest red ribbons" what a pretty image

I've always loved Sugar... I feel such raw emotion in that song. Actually, the version I have that's live from the Columbus, Ohio scarlet tour (That I was at)... makes me cry every time I listen to it. And she does this cute little thing where she kind of speaks the words "Boys just watch, just watch what they do"... makes me grin like a three year old....
And wow I can ramble. ;D

Waitress was really hard at first, I think because it's so raw and I was never a waitress lol once I asked a friend why she was so in love with The Waitress and all she said was "you've obviously never been a waitress". The first version of Waitress I heard was live on TVAB so I was shocked when I first heard the album version. But I love it

The Waitress - I found this song a little annoying at first, the lyrics are great, but it took me a while to like this song.
Pofessional Widow - I did not really like the way Tori sang in this song, but I've grown to like it.
In The Springtime Of His Voodoo - I don't know what, but something about this song just bugs me.
I'm Not In Love - This song still does not sit well with me.
Another Girl's Paradise - This song just does not hit me as anything special.
And ..... that is all, it is rare for me to dislike a Tori song, really.
