Hmm... well, off the top of my head, I'd say it was probably because the guy turned to prefer sister 2 to sister 1, and so sister 1 killed her sister so she'd have him...
This story is the scene of quite a few traditional songs, you know... I was just listening to one of them a moment ago...
TWO SISTERS - Clannad
There were two sisters side by side - Sing I-dum, sing I-day - There were two sisters side by side - The boys are born for me - There were two sisters side by side The eldest for young Johnny cried I'll be true unto my love if he'll be true to me
Johnny bought the youngest a gay-gold ring He never bought the eldest a single thing
Johnny bought the youngest a beaver hat The eldest didn't think much of that
As they were a-walking by the foamy brim The eldest pushed the youngest in
Sister, oh sister, give me thy hand And you can have Johnny and all his land
Oh sister, I'll not give you my hand And I'll have Johnny and all his land
So away she sank and away she swam Until she came to the miller's dam
The miller, he took her gay-gold ring And then he pushed her in again
The miller, he was hanged on the mountain head The eldest sister was boiled in lead

Well, my answer is a little different....maybe a stretch... I'm thinking if sis 1 sees the man of her dreams at her parents FUNERAL, then most likely he would also be at the funeral of her sister again (assuming only friends & family attend funerals, usually) and maybe she was too shy to get to know him at the parents funeral, so she did the only thing she could think of to see him again.....Murder her sister so that he'd be there again. Well? Btw, I already know that I'm a psycho, but I'm one of those perfectly sane psychos. ;D

It might just be the other way around too...
That the guy killed sister 2 so that he could get to see sister 1 again... one never knows...

Well, sister one had to kill her because all the voices made her do it ;D lol LOL, that's priceless my answer: sister 2 told sister one how much of a wierdo the guy was, so the guy killed sister 2, so he could have sister 1... yeah, does that make sense? *hugz*

btw, that Sisters song is scary! LOL I've got another one with almost the same theme (and exactly the same title), but in Danish, by Sorten Muld (check the "other artists" section ), called 2 Søstre. In that one, the sister is pushed into the ocean by her sister, and then two young musicians find her body on the shore and make a harp from her bones and golden hair. They take the harp to play before the sisters' father, and everyone recognises its song; "My sister took my young life, but never will she take my husband! Tonight she sits upon the bridal bench, tomorrow she will be burned on the fire - none shall forget me when the harp begins to play!" That's almost spookier, 'cause in that one, the sister is there to make sure she gets her revenge...

Oisin, I'm starting to worry about you, honey! LOL!!! ;D Hey, it's not me... It's my cultural heritage to have folklore that mainly involves killing, incest, matri-, fratri-, patri- and sororicide (is that what it's called? Sororicide?), mauling, raiding and such thing... I'm a VIKING!!!! Mwaaahahhahahahahah!!!!

I think I have a slightly different twist on Bumblebee's answer... I'm thinking he's the undertaker or someone who works at the funeral parlor or something.

Or maybe, this is even more twisted, maybe the sisters killed their parents for their money, and Sister 1 wants to share it with the guy of her dreams rather than with Sister 2.
I dunno. I'm really not that crazy, I promise! I just think that there is something odd about both parents being dead at the same time. I think that there must be some sort of clue in that.
Or maybe they are "sisters" of the religious type...
Okay, I am thinking about this WAY too much!!

DaturaFae~ You're way too logical to be a Psycho, that's for sure!

How about a combination...
They are sisters in family as well as of the religious type (ie. nuns), and sister 1 killed both their parents for money (or something).
Then sister 2 finds out about this, and also about the guy that sister 1 wants; so, naturally, she wants to warn the poor guy of what her sister is.
But unfortunately for sister 2, the guy is sister 1's accomplice in the murder of the parents, and sister 1 and the guy kill sister 2 too, because she knows too much...
I like this one...
