EDIT: *** Click below to help provide free mammograms *** ----> CLICK HERE <---- I know that this is totally random, but it's Breast Cancer Awareness month and I know that I am not the only one here who has (unfortunately) a close relation to this cause and (fortunately) not the only one here who is a big fan of Food Network and DEFINITELY not the only one here who LOVES shoes!! So I just thought I would share this fun link: www.stuartweitzman.com/auction/index.asp?AUCTION_ID=96I know that not many of us could actually afford to bid on those, but they are fun to look at and remind us of an important cause. I also decided to start this thread as a place to share any links related to this cause -- not only those where we can donate or volunteer, but also those with important awareness information and support groups. Also, if anyone needs to talk about this topic, feel free to contact me anytime. As some of you may know, my mom started treatment again a couple of weeks ago. I feel terrible that I can't be with her. I guess the least I can do is spread the word in ways like this.

Thankyou, Lauren, for this fun link and for starting this very important thread. It's something that's stayed close to my heart for a while now, ever since the pink ribbon campaign started and since my aunt went through treatment a few years ago (she was the one I shaved my head with ). I think it's a great idea to raise awareness and participation through having a bit of fun, too. Man, some of those shoes are WILD!!! Lau, I'm gonna be thinking of you and your mummy this month and sending her many strong and energising vibes ~~~~~~~~~~

What you did for your aunt was such an incredible show of support. If only there were more people like you in the world!
If I were actually to bid on one of those shoes, I think that it would be Bobby Flay's. I love the way that they make it look like a grill!
Thank you for your thoughts, Helen and Aims. Fortunately things seem to be much easier this time around (the treatment is far less harsh). It amazes me how strong my mother can be, and her strength is what keeps me in good spirits about this. A bit backwards, I think, but at least I know that she is well. I just feel so guilty because she had just finished her chemo when I had to go away to school in NY seven years ago, and this time they found it again right after I moved away (NY again).
Anyway, I think that awareness is SO important. My mom found the lumps on her own -- it did not come up on the usual screenings. And this second time around they found the abnormalities but assumed that they were nothing harmful, so they gave her the option of a biopsy. She pushed the biopsy and it was damn good thing that she did. Basically, as she reminded myself and my sister -- girls, you know your body best so trust your intuitions when you think something is wrong. And learn about how to check yourself for this stuff!!

Basically, as she reminded myself and my sister -- girls, you know your body best so trust your intuitions when you think something is wrong. And learn about how to check yourself for this stuff!! Definitely. It's scary to think that machines can only pick up soo much, but on the other hand it makes sense, cos they don't have intuition! I check every month now. I used to check a lot more than that, but it got to the point where I didn't really know what was 'normal' anymore. My doc said once a month is fine. And Lauren, I know you must be feeling yucky about leaving your mum again... I felt so much guilt while I was in Japan because both mum and dad were unwell, but now, finally, after chatting with them and a friendly psychologist, I'm starting to shed a lot of this unhealthy guilt. I learned that with my mum, there is only so much I can do, and after that it's either up to her, or she has to let 'nature' take its course (she has had bipolar for 25 years) and trust that everything she is doing is ok. She's an amazing woman, too. It's the same kind of thing with dad - he has PTSD and depression, but he's managing pretty well these days. My parents told me that I need to have my own life, too. There's no point in feeling all that guilt if there really is nothing I can do. But I guess with you, Lau, you want to be with your mum because her experience will be much more physical, and maybe there is more you can do for her (though from here, you sound like a very loving, caring and sensitive daughter, I don't think you could do much more!) Big hugs for you, too petal

Thank you so much Helen. Your words mean a lot.
I think that one of the reasons I feel especially guilty this time is that last time i was only 17 and probably wasn't there for her as much as I would be now.
Thanks again. *big hugs for you too*

Thanks for this post DaturaFae. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and what's most important is to spread awareness and to catch it early if there is something there because that is what saved my mom.

Those are some pretty awesome shoes!
Breast cancer took my grandmother, and my mother has already had a biopsy. I'm pretty sure she's clear for awhile now, though. It's a terrible thing to have in the family.

Lauren, I clicked and bookmarked and then began obsessing with the pink ribbon goods! Especially the toe ring, lol. I'll see if there's an Aussie site, too. Thanks for keeping us involved and up-to-date (I also changed my skin to Pink Talula last week, lol)
