[Princess Decadence]

1. Amber Waves (4#'s but changes to the key of C at the "Healing Machine" part) A decent arrangement that stays true to the recorded song.
2. a sorta fairytale (4b's) If you like playing accompaniment to a singer, this is a nice, simple arrangement. But if you prefer to have the melody incorporated into your playing, a fairly experienced pianist shouldn't have too much trouble doing so. The same three chords are repeated through most of the piece, leaving you room to add those melody notes.
3. Wednesday (2b's) Fun, easy accompany piece that incorporates the melody at a few points.
4. strange (2b's) Pretty much the same as "Wednesday."
5. Carbon (5#'s --a little scary) One of the more difficult pieces, the time signature alternates from 6/8 to 7/8 all the way through. Also, this is total accompaniment.
6. Crazy (key of C) One of the easiest pieces, "Crazy" incorporates the melody throughout.
7. wampum prayer (1#) Although just an a capella song, it's nice knowing what the exact notes are.
8. don't make me come to Vegas (1#) A fun piece to play. Incorporates the melody throughout.
9. Sweet Sangria (2b's) A little disappointing, but probably would sound great with a little bass backup. Mostly accompaniment.
10. your cloud (5b's, but easy to transpose to 2#'s) Also a sheer accompany piece, "your cloud" is easy and mellow, true to the recording.
11. pancake (1b) Mostly accompaniment, and IMHO not a very fun-to-play arrangement.
12. I can't see New York (5b's, but transposable to 2#'s) Great accompany arrangement, but difficult just due to its length.

13. mrs. jesus (3#'s) A fairly easy arrangement that is mostly accompaniment.
14. Taxi Ride (4b's) I haven't tried this one yet, but it looks like the melody is incorporated throughout.
15. another girl's paradise (1#) My favorite to play so far. Easy to play AND it has the backup vocals.
16. Scarlet's Walk (6b's, but transposable to 1#) I have yet to tackle this song, also, but it appears fairly simple despite the key signature.
17. Virginia (4#'s) Mostly accompaniment, but a beautiful arrangement, even without a singer. No backup vocals, though
18. gold dust (6b's) A good arrangement that incorporates the melody at a few points.

Ooooh, this is really neat! So I gather the music follows what she plays sometimes, and what she sings at others? Or am I getting confused on this?

Personally I prefer what she plays, as that makes it a lot easier to accompany someone, rather than having the melody she sings written as a piano part.

I've been eye-ing the book for SW for a while now, but it's SO bloody expensive...$40+ but it would be a nice expenditure....

From a couple of things I've seen (including this review, which I came across a couple of years ago), I get the impression that the Scarlet's Walk songbook is far and away the best at setting out what Tori actually plays.

For that reason it's the only one I've ever been very interested in.

Maybe it's a change of record company thing - the Beekeeper book might be good too.

I bought the SW book when it came out (and got it off from Amazon.com for about 20 bucks, so very cheap!), and I have to agree with it being probably the best out of all of the sheet music books (The Bee Sides being my other favorite).

Like Jason, I also like it that the notes follow the "original" piano instead of the melody. Playing along with those notes sounds more like the actual recording and it's fun to learn what kind of neat tricks Tori does while she's playing. I once bought myself the Complete Kate Bush "sheet music" book and was bitterly disappointed that it basically had just the melody of the songs written down with chords jutted above them. Playing chords with the left hand and the straight-forward melody with the right makes me feel like a grade-school music teacher! Might as well just listen to the recording and figure out the chords myself...

On SW, Gold Dust is just wonderful and sounds very faithful to the recording. I also like playing A Sorta Fairytale although it's dead easy to play--but if you listen to the original recording, the piano in that is pretty easy, too. It's fun to sing on top of your own easy accompaniment!

The title song is also fun to play. Ahhh now I'm missing my piano :/
