There's a new Tori Amos biography called, Pretty Good Years coming out on June 30th. Is this authorized or just written by some journalist? I thought that would be strange since Piece By Piece just came out.

It looks like it's unauthorized. I bet it is.

I thought that Tori was credited with writing it, it could be bullshit though. I'll probably read it just because. xo

I just finished reading Piece by Piece. I agree with Nattie--good stuff! I never knew what a cool business brain Tori had: most articles seem to love to market her as a ditzy fairy girl. Piece by Piece really shows, in her own words, how smart she is in every possible way but without ever flaunting it. The way it was written was also great. More of a stream of consciousness than the typical chronological biographies. So I'm quite happy with having read just Piece by Piece--no need for new ones

I don't think any articles make Tori sound ditzy. Actually, any interview you read with Tori makes her sound like a genius in my opinion.

I got yo' back, Jenni! There are plenty of articles out there that have reinforced her stereotype of being a flighty, off-the-wall, fairy-obsessed lunatic.

Oh, I didn't mean they don't think she's weird. I said I don't think they call her a ditz. I think they think she's out of her mind, but not stupid.

Hi girls!
Julie, I think we got a semantics problem here. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to call her stupid or make magazines call her stupid. The kind of image of "ditzy" that comes to my head is what Carly described above. Or like Natalie Portman's character in The Garden State. Someone who is a little crazy (in a positive way), rambling from here to there, talking about stuff "normal" people probably wouldn't bring up in a regular conversation, making it sound like this person might have some issues with concentration. I think that still can include genius, but the magazines love to gear it to sound "whooboy, this girl is off her rocker but isn't she adoooorable!", especially when the interviews are aimed at a mainstream audience who doesn't know Tori that well. If my memory serves me right, Ann Powers says in the first pages of Piece By Piece that that's what the media has loved to do before and she (and Tori) are definitely not going down that road.
So yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like the media really hates her or wants to say she's completely stupid--sorry about that! *now goes to look in the dictionary what "ditzy" really means*

I just looked it up on dictionary.com and you're right. It means "Eccentric or scatterbrained" and I thought it meant the same exact thing has a bimbo which I looked up as well and is, "a person who even has to be tutored in the clichés that comprise the basic interview" and "a young woman indulged by rich and powerful older men".
