Do you guys ever make New Year's resolutions? How well do you keep them? Why do you think people make them?
I don't think I've ever seriously made any New Year's resolutions, but here's the first time!
I promise to...
... divide my time better so that I will have more time to come here. I miss you guys! ... eat every day and most of the time healthily ... not worry about work so much. It's just work. ... start going to the gym (actually, will start tomorrow--I guess I needed to have an accident that requires rehabilitation to start a healthy habit!) ... save time also for "silliness", such as dancing at home, doodling, making disgusting looking cookies just for fun.
Hmm. I think I might be able to keep those to some extent.
What do you hope the next year to bring?

Yes, I make resolutions. two years ago I made a res to be a normal weight before my 25th birthday and I made it. I've lost 70lbs so far. This year it's: ~to be even more healthy, I need to lost another 30-40 lbs to be at my goal. I'm at 190lbs right now and I'm 5'9". ~Spend more time here too! ~Finish my album and release it. ~Spend more time making me happy and not those who could care less about me. ~Work less ~Be happier ~be a better friend. xo

I think you can make resolutions any time, but I like the fresh- start-feeling of making them at the beginning of the new year. A few of mine- -to exercise more. This is one I make every year, and I really need to work at it. I am proud to say that I started taking yoga class this year, and plan to continue it into 2007. -to stay sober. -to taper off my med and hopefully maintain my mental health so I can stay off it. -to connect with others more, whether it be through letters, phone or in person. -to discover new music and books. -to explore creative (and healthy) outlets. That's all that comes to mind right now.

I mostly just think] about some decent NYRs, and I usually put them into practice through the year when I wake up and go, "bugger it, I'm gonna go to aerobics today." or "Nup, I don't need that!" etc. Otherwise it's too much pressure for me.
Here are some things I'm thinking about, lol:
-try hard to put myself out there more, in the hope that I will meet someone -increase my fitness! -expand my cooking repetoire -find more time to read -make time to write, and any associated research -keep working on self-confidence -get ready to start my brand new life in Melbourne in 2008!
I turn 30 this year, so I have the words, running behind a tiny helicopter in my head. Yeah.

-stay sober -go to more AA meetings -exercise more -not be "friends with benefits" with anyone (I've been doing that off and on since I was 14 and I'm sick and tired of it)

Nattie, I wrote doodling, not drooling! Now I can't get the image of myself just staring out the window and drooling out of my head #19#
Helen--I need to upload those pictures of the disgusting cookies. Or did I take pictures only of the cute ones... Oh no, I hope not! I probably haven't laughed that hard in a long time. "Wait, let me show you that really terrible looking...--Which one of those???"
So far my gym resolution has held up! Only 49 more weeks of this year to go...

Lol, I laughed so much to that doodling/drooling thing... #19# I don't make New Years resolutions... haven't ever made them... Of course there are lots of things to better but I don't set them as goals as New Year's resolutions, if I try to get something better, I try, whenever that needs to be better. For some reason especially this year, changing the year didn't felt like anything. It's just... time goes on and now it happens to be 2007 instead of 2006. Partly it might be that I don't really wait this year 'cause it just takes me to closer the situation to choose what I want to do after upper secondary school (and I have no idea... about anything). And partly because I was sick on New Year's Eve. Then everything can feel like nothing.

I am currently reading Little Girl Lost By Drew Barrymore. It's about her recovery from alcholism and drug abuse at the age of 11-14. In the book Jaid Barrymore, Drew's mom, talks a lot about the healing process for herself during the process and I came across a quote that I thought was fitting for this resolutions thread: "When you make a new resolution, you have to keep strengthening and nurturing and reinforcing it. When you've had years of practicing a pattern that you're asserting over and over again, in order to change, you have to build a new foundation. If it's not a tremendously conscious effort at every moment, it's easy to slide back to where you were. It's like putting on this old, comfortable pair of shoes. You have to break the new ones in, and that takes time. And it's uncomfortable at first." So my next question is: How are you doing on your resolutions so far? xo
