a sorta fairytale
on my way up north
up on the Ventura
I pulled back the hood
and I was talking to you
and I knew then it would be
a Life Long thing
but I didn't know that we
We could break a silver lining
Sometimes when you're in love, you pretend you see the future and really believe yourself in this fantasy and it's very overwhelming when you realize it's actually not fullfilling you and you separate.
And I'm so sad
like a good book
I can't put this
Day Back
a sorta fairytale
with you
a sorta fairytale
with you
It is such extreme devastation when something so lovely happens in your life and it still is not enough, it doesn't feel right, you realize this isn't your life long soul mate, but your right now soul mate and you keep replaying the final conversation between the two of you in your head.
things you said that day
up on the 101
the girl had come undone
I tried to downplay it
with a bet about us
You said that-
You'd take it
as long as I could
I could not erase it
And I'm so sad
like a good book
I can't put this
Day Back
a sorta fairytale
with you
a sorta fairytale
with you
and I ride along side
and I rode along side
you then
and I rode along side
till you lost me there
in the open road
And I rode along side
till the honey spread
itself so thin
for me break your bread
for me to take your word
I had to steal it
And I'm so sad
like a good book
I can't put this
Day Back
a sorta fairytale
with you
a sorta fairytale
with you
Down New Mexico way
soething about
the open road
I knew that he was
looking for some Indian Blood and
find a little in you find a little
in me we may be
on this road but
we're just
Imposters
in this country you know
So we go along and we said
we'd fake it
feel better with
Oliver Stone
till I
almost smacked him -
seemed right that night and
I don't know what
takes hold
out there in the
desert cold
These guys think they must
Try and just get over on us
And I'm so sad
like a good book
I can't put this
Day Back
a sorta fairytale
with you
a sorta fairytale
with you
and I was ridin' by
ridin' along side
for a while till you lost me
and I was ridin' by
ridin' along till you lost me
till you lost
me in
the Rear
View
you lost me
I said
They eventually lost each other during their road trip. It was all great and romantic and all but then when they finally revealed their true selves without the gloss and coverup that humans can put on to make themselves more suitable for one another, they realized they weren't meant to be eternally.
Way up North I took my day
all in all was a pretty nice
day and I put the Hood
right back where
You could taste heaven
perfectly
Feel out the summer breeze
didn't know when we'd be back
And I - I don't -
didn't think
we'd end up like
like this
Still in shock that things ended when she was almost certain that things would be forever because of this fantastic romance that occurred. Now it's kind of like a sad sigh that the fairytale was only a half of one if any.
Here's Tori's description of it:
A SORTA FAIRYTALE finds Scarlet back in LA with a man she has convinced herself is her life's soul mate. "They take the big trip in the classic car up the Pacific Coast highway and across the desert. But as they go on, the masks drop away and they discover the fantasy they have of each other isn't who they really are." They end up back where they started and Scarlet leaves. "They did care. But somehow they lost each other. Which is why it's only A Sorta Fairytale..."
-- Scarlet's Walk bio
"I think that there is a place where she [Scarlet] realizes that people come in and out of your life. Sometimes for a day, sometimes for longer. And all of them make you what you are. You can't separate these people out of you. They form who you are. Even the ones that you kind of say well...you know, I don't know if I wanna be formed by them anymore. (laughs) But you are in some way. You are. That's why, maybe, you don't have to look at them so harshly because they have effected you. At the end, though, you know...it's us as individuals with our...mm...with our love for the land. For something untangible, that when soulmates come and go, you're never alone even when you're standing just you in your shoes, because you carry them with you."
-- Scarlet Stories CD
"[Scarlet's] in love at that point," she explained, "and [the couple is] taking that classic trip up [Highway] 101 and [Highway] 1 on their way to San Francisco, and they cut off because they are having the trip of their life, and they go out West to the Southwest. And that's where the masks come down for them. Who they thought each other was is not who they really are. It's one of those things where it's not about not having enough love for each other, it's just that you don't know why you can't make it work. You don't know how you are losing each other and you're sitting right in front of each other in plain view, but you can't seem to make it work. And that's why it's a 'sort of' fairy tale, because she wasn't a princess."
--Tori; MTV.com News, 09/23/02
"Well, she's [Scarlet] been to the porn awards with her friend Amber in Vegas, and she didn't want to go, but needed to go with her friend. They sort of part ways in Nevada, and Scarlet goes to Alaska to see the northern lights and give them a message from Amber Waves how's really at this point on her knees, and there's not a lot of her left. So as a friend, Scarlet goes to take this message and they give her one to give to Amber back. So once she delivers the message, she sets off on this trip with this love, her soul mate, up the 101 and they're falling in love, and they decide to go deeper and so they go to the desert. He decides she isn't his fantasy and she looks at him and says 'Well I didn't know that you didn't see me the whole time'."
--Tori; BBC Radio2 w/ Lynn Parsons, 10/14/02
"By the end of it -- once they masks have come down and they see who each other really is, not the fantasy of who each other is -- then, they decide that they don't know why... 'cause there's enough love, but there's not enough something else and they don't know what that something else is. So, they part. And, that's why it's only 'A Sorta Fairytale'."

I: ..Driving along the Ventura? Would that be the freeway?
T: Yes, I did it many times. I lived here for almost eight years.
I: That's the 101. So talk about this song; go ahead.
T: Well, this is the second song on the album.
--Tori; Star 98.7 Interview, 08/19/02
I: You directly attack Oliver Stone- the song says that he deserves to be slapped. What will he say about that?
T: He's either got a sense of humour or he hasn't. He represents certain things. He then wanted to use my song Me And A Gun for his film Natural Born Killers, and he had many reasons, but in the end I couldn't accept them. I have this problem with Hollywood directors who want to play god. I don't like that attitude with priests, presidents or others either. I just had to reply to that. Now I keep meeting Oliver by chance, on airplanes and such. Weird. We both went so different ways and yet they keep overlapping again and again.
