Peeping Tommi
Looking past
Branches
Past
Fresh mown grass
Dirt licking my elbows
I watch his hand move
Up
Up
Up
Her dress
Don’t run away from me now
Don’t run away from me now
She’s down on the ground
She gives the boy a smile
I think of you
I think of that man all the while
You see my dreams
Are filled with him
His face shows up on
In my favorite Danish
Don’t run away from me now
Don’t run away from me now
She’s willing
Just breathe
Willing
One day I’ll be
Sail through my ears
I heard you fine the first time
‘Time to let it go.’
Time to give my gun a nice
Surprise
Surprise
Willing
Just breathe
Willing
Peeping tommi
Tori's description of it:
"When Mark told me that he had found "Peeping Tommi" in the tape library, for the life of me I couldn't remember it. I think that as a songwriter sometimes when you leave something off a record you choose to block it out. Whether that's feelings of guilt, I'm not sure why. But I do know that i have a selective memory. When I heard it back I can't tell you why I withheld it. I know why "Take Me With You" didn't end up on Pink and that's because I couldn't finish it. "Peeping Tommi," however, was a thought maybe I wasn't ready to expose at that particular time."
From A Piano: The Collection book.
I think it's about someone watching someone else's every move. Stalking, spying, eaves dropping. They are so obsessed with this person that they're seeing them everywhere (i.e. Danish) so they never get away from them.
