I think Garcia Marquez was right when he said she has writing quality and could of been a really great writer. I like her lyrics especially in spanish but I don't really like her voice much.

I'm kinda neutral on her... I don't particularly like her voice all that much, but like Monica said, I think she's got potential... I've never heard any of her Spanish stuff... what's it like Monika? More or less poppy than what she does now?

shakira's stuff is really quite nice...now she is all pop and has blonde hair(not that there is anything wrong with that) but before she had this luxerious (however u spell it) dark hair with bright red chunks in it..her voice to a while for me to get into i like her english album and her spanish mtv unplugged album.but now she is too poppy [/color]

I don't own anything from her, but I like the singles that have made the charts. She seems quite down to earth too.

Oisín, I think daturaangel812 is right, Shakira used to have the most beautiful long black hair and she was more about acoustic guitar and rock songs, and although she still was a pop artist it wasn't like now. Her spanish songs are romantic songs or existence issues which sound much more poetic than translated versions of some of them. I wish she was more like before because now I don't even like her voice much.

Shakira's early stuff in spanish was good up until she went bleach blonde and decided to crossover. It was like she announced the death of her rock roots. She changed herself for pop stardom.

Well, i love her albums Donde eston los Ladrones and Piez descalzos. She's so rockgirl there.

But i didn't like very much about her last album Laundry Service. She tryies to be a pop/sensual girl. I love she singing in spanish. Her voice is so strong.

I hope her new album come back to Donde eston los ladrones Era...

My roommate used to listen to her spanish music before she became popular in the US, that's how I first knew of her. I really like her older stuff.

Look, the facts are this: I liked her when she sang in Spanish and talk about love and all that stuffs. But, suddenly, Emilio Estefan appeared, and she started to make VERY weird videos (When you see the video of the song "No creo" you'll understand me). Then she made the Unplugged, and that really sicked me. It was horrible!!!!!!!!!!!
And now, that funny tiny black-hair (and fat, because, yes, she was pretty fat) girl is very thing, screams, talks about the biggest shit that she can think about, and sells a lot of albums.
I'm mad cos the radios and the tv pays atention to her and not to another artist, like Tori, Alanis, Lisa Loeb, Portishead, Björk... (I could be the whole day like that).
Mmm... that's all.
Oh, I forgot one thing: Why does she SCREAMS like that? I do hate that!

I own four different Shakira CDs and I must say that her Spanish albums are far better than her mostly-English Laundry Service album. Damn, that girl can dance, though!
