Hi all I have recently become so disillusioned by the music industry. There is just so much CRAP out there. I was hoping some of you could turn me on to some new music. Some of my interest are Tori of course Bjork Alanis Fiona Poe Suzanne Vega and I just discovered Imogen Heap and Bright Eyes, of course I have MANY more but I'm looking for those hidden treasures. Any help would be SO appreciated. A girl I meet at the Tori show mentioned Charlotte Martin but I haven't investigated her yet. Thanks

You should definitely add Rachael Yamagata to your list. Her debut album, "Happenstance" is very good.
I don't know if I should plug Australian artists that might be hard for you to find, but if you ever get a chance to hear:
- "Echolalia" by Something for Kate - "Unity" by george
then for heaven's sake give them a listen. Mary can tell you how much I rave about these two albums and how worthwhile the raving was.

He raves. Then he makes me rave. It's crazy. Listen to the man.
Another big vote for Rachael Yamagata.
And Charlotte Martin is very good stylistically and voice-wise - I'm just waiting for a bit more mature vocals from her. But still, I love her music.
edit: I meant to say more mature lyrics from her.

I think you might like Kate Bush - check out the Hounds of Love first, then maybe The Sensual World, and I don't have it but a lot of people seem to really like The Dreaming.

Check out Sufjan Stevens, M.I.A., Andrew Bird, Sigur Ros, Broken Social Scene, Joanna Newsom, The Decemberists, The New Pornographers, The Futureheads, and M83. Once you're done with those artists, come back and I will list some more!

Heya, I give a huge nod to Trevor's suggestions - especially 'Unity'. If you like Imogen Heap, then check out her side project Frou Frou as well. They have only one album, 'Details', but it's a treasure to me. I'd also like to recommend a very humble (and my fave) Aussie singer, Alex Lloyd. His first two albums, 'Black The Sun' and 'Watching Angels Mend' are my joys. www.alexlloyd.com/home/home.doHope your ears are dancing soon!

Natalie Merchant has always been one of my Favorites. the Doves are good to, as well as David Gray... no certain albums to check out first, though... just have at it!
