Any other Elvis fans here? He's got a new album, NORTH, that's being released this month....the 10th thru the 23rd, depending where you live. You can check out the music from his upcoming album here: www.elviscostello.com/(just click 'music') "The record presents eleven new compositions written at the piano by Costello between Autumn 2002 and New Year¹s Day 2003." This is a very thoughtful, soulful, quiet album compared to his release last year (which was more 'old school Elvis and the Attractions' punk/pop/hi-energy)....I like it. Mr. Costello will be appearing on Late Nite with Dave Letterman on Sept 23. Also: A&E- Live By Request- Thursday 9/25- ELVIS COSTELLO TO APPEAR ON A&E'S LIVE BY REQUEST THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 10PM MIDNIGHT ET/7-9pm PT Two-Hour World Premiere Airs Live From New York (Encores Sunday, September 28, 10am noon ET/PT) He will be taking song requests via an 800#! My favorite Elvis Costello song: "Indoor Fireworks"

A guy that I had a brief sexual enounter with several years ago worships Elvis Costello. Said guy turned into a psycho when he found out I wasn't being being monogomous (we were just sleeping together...not in a relationship) with him...so I've always steered clear of Elvis Costello, because it reminded me of psycho who thought he owned me.
Should I get over it and see what Mr. Costello has to offer?

I prefer the older classics, and I really like bits and pieces of his more recent stuff. There are SEVERAL 'best of' albums of his/theirs to listen to if you want to get an overall feel for his music.

The "Extreme Honey" best of is on the shopping list. Mightily impressed when listening to it in a shop QUITE some time ago. Now if someone would stop sending me lots of new music to digest I might actually start working my way down the shopping list again...
...and the shopping list is about to grow astronomically with Sting, Seal, Fiona Apple, Something for Kate, etc etc etc...

LOL, smiley changes made my favorite song, listed above, look silly. Ahem... Ok, I'll be good. Also, I don't have Extreme Honey....I've got 2 other 'best of's, though. That Honey one has a somewhat more random collection of not necessarily his most well-known/popular stuff from his albums, if I remember correctly. (and a bonus track(s)?) Should be interesting!
