Ahhhh I just discovered her the other day. So obviously, I've got a lot of work to do. But I have to say, I can't believe I've never listened to her before. I hear in Janis Joplin's voice, her style, I hear a predecessor to pretty much everything I listen to - I hear her in Tori Amos, I hear her in PJ Harvey, I hear her in Sleater-Kinney. There's something in the way she sings that's just... powerful. Untouchable. And I love it.
Plus, she's actually quite political sometimes - I love Mercedes Benz[/b], it's so apt even now.
Anyone else ever listen to Janis?

Oh you all suck There would be no Tori Amos without Janis Joplin, I feel... or at least she'd be very different. Oh well. Go try Janis out sometime, you can't possibly be sorry...

Lol nobody loves you Teeheee.... I would've, if I'd seen this thread before now. But yeah. Janis was cool.. I only have this crappy little greatest hits, that I never really listen to, but I do like her. (p.s. I really wanted to go as Janis to a costume party once, but the shitty costume hire place didn't have anything cool enough so I ended up just going as a random hippy, and it wasn't as good)

LOL I don't care if anyone loves me, but Janis deserves the accolades damnit!
Glad you've heard a bit of her, and I think you would've made an awesome Janis Joplin! Hey, I might even make a good one myself... hmm... hehehe Halloween IS coming up huh? And she wasn't the biggest girl in the chest, so I'm sure I could pull that part off...
Ehhh I wanted to do Courtney Love though. Would be HILARIOUS.

I had a friend senior year of high school that could sing really well and we would go under this bridge and smoke pot and she'd sing "Me and Bobby McGee". It was cool. Not that that's relevant. I don't own any Janis. I'd like to, though.

She's pretty damn good though You made me listen to Me And Bobby McGee now lol (sans pot [for tonight, anyway ])

Janis is awesome - I read her biography recently - quite chilling but pure rock&roll! Pearl is generally considered the definitive album.
