What is the big deal?? I mean, I can understand someone liking her music and all, but really, saying she's the biggest thing in pseudo-pop these days is an overstatement. I had the chance to listen to both her albums and the woman has ONE song in each record that doesn't put me to sleep. Then she says she doesn't know why she didn't cum.

My opinion of Norah went back and forth for awhile.
We have her latest album and I really like it a lot. Yes, it's extremely mellow, but sometimes that fits the bill. I think her particular brand of mellow is very pleasing to my ear and there's some kind of gracefulness in her lyrics that appeals to me, too.
Nice.

agreed, but far from spectacular.

I started a thread about her a long time ago. This is my reaction to Norah --->

agreed, but far from spectacular. Agreed. But if you don't have some not-necessarily-spectacular nice music once in awhile, how will you ever appreciate all the rare and truly spectacular stuff? Norah's a nice reminder of what nice is for me. (LOL, for some reason I like to listen to her cd while I'm cleaning out the frig... I'm not sure what that says, but...) Plus, she's nice to have around for when Carly comes to visit... b/c Carly occasionally has insomnia trouble... we'll just pop that 'Feels Like Home' cd in and she'll be in no time!

i think 'Come Away With Me' is more of a cd than 'Feels Like Home'. After hearing the track she did with Dolly Parton, FLH turned into a cd.

Maz, thanks for the great idea. If I can't sleep tonight, I'm totally going to put on "Come Away With Me." Remember Paulio? Yeah, he burned it for me.

As I said, the 2nd one is, I think, the better of the 2. Overall, it's 'nicest'. LOL I'm gonna keep using that word here.

i don't know, maybe i just haven't heard the 2nd one enough to compare the two more clearly (is that even right?). i heard it entirely maybe twice, although i don't even think so. it got me nervous, i'm very impatient and very "NOW!!!", so that kind of music gives me claustrophobic attacks. 'Sunrise', however, is pretty... nice. haha.

Music (nice music) CAN make you slow down a bit and appreciate it differently than the majority of the "Wow-Now" music you listen to (and that's my majority, too), thereby having its own merits. So, to answer your original question: If there's a big deal to be found, you'll find it yourself; if not, no big deal.

it does have its merits, for sure, i just think they're highly overrated. there are better singers with better voices and better lyrical talents out there that don't get nearly as much attention as Jones does. her best songs aren't written by her.

i really do like norah jones. i have both her albums and her "live in new orleans" dvd. why? i think she has a really nice voice, she's a great piano player (even though diana krall and of course tori are better), and i think that she's just an overall-nice person. i like her a lot. plus, she reminds me so much of a friend of mine from sao paulo, so i feel as if i've known her for ages, really. too bad her berlin concert has been sold out for long. and the tickets offered at ebay by far exceed my budget.
