Name an artist(s) that currently annoys the shit out of you (I better not see 100 posts saying 'Britney Spears' haha)
Liz Phair I'm sorry, but she sucks. I don't know too much of her older stuff, but the new stuff is pure shit.

The Bloodhound Gang. No musical talent and a penchant for vulgar lyrics.

Btw, have you seen the video for her acoustic version of her song? OMG, makes me wanna gag! Um, I don't have a pure annoyance for anyone right now, I don't think.. the Ataris annoy me a little bit when I hear them on the radio .. that's all I can think of right now.

I'm happy to say I've NEVER heard a Jessica Simpson song. But yeah, she's annoying for the fact that she thinks it's trendy and cool to be a ditz. I can't decide which is worse... the fact that she capitalizes on her ditziness for her show, or the way so many people tune in to watch it. Sad. (I saw clips of it on a news show... they were talking about how successful her 'reality' show w/her husband is. She actually said: "Yeah, people think I'm dumb. I'm not dumb, I'm just ditzy. There's a difference." Uh-huh. )

Korn (cuz of what they said about Ben) Duran Duran (except for "Say A Prayer") 1. I don't care much for Rufus W either! 2. LMAO about the Korn comment... that was one of the damn funniest things Ben talked about in concert. (they way he told the story, not what Korn actually said) 3. Save A Prayer is my very most favorite DD song! Um, but I like a lot of their other stuff, too. Bluey, I recently read an article where someone called Brand New 'punk-pop'! For shame! *shockey face*

I've only heard clips of her music in music stores, but even that's rare - most stores won't (have the guts to?) play her!! I just thought of another one: Whoever sings that disgusting 'Milkshake' song

Hi Aims,
Ben Folds. One of the songs he (or his band, Ben Folds Five) plays is called "Rocking the Suburbs." During lottapianos tour, Ben frequently provided the background for the song. He had read a magazine interview with Korn, where they basically trashed him. Ben responds by telling the audience that they are a bunch of angry young white men who really have nothing to be angry about. Now, Stevie Wonder, he was born blind and he had as much a right as anybody to be angry. Instead, Stevie put his energies in promoting love, not anger. Ben went on to say that the only reason Korn sounds so good is that they manipulate their tracks electronically so that the beats line up (and then sound "louder," you can do this MIDI tracks and such), thus the line "My producer fixes all my shitty, shitty tracks!"
O DEFINITELY add
Hilary Duff (agreed, Mary!) Britney Spears
Last Christmas, I bought my niece a Hilary Duff CD (cuz she wanted it) and then I got to hear it. I wanted to puke! Should've bought some Tori for her ... but she is too young for that.
o btw, I get to see Ben Folds (yay) and Rufus Wainwright (yuck) on the same night next month.

Hey now, Liz Phair is extremely talented. She just sold out on her last album to attain commerical success... D'OH! Mine would be: Linkin Park (The Backstreet Boys of manufactured punk-rock-rap... seriously) Limp Bizkit (Do I even need to explain?) Good Charlotte (We call them Shitty Charlotte Hillary Duff, actually, no, she doesn't even count as an artist Jessica Simpson Lars of Metallica YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY ALREADY! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! I'm blanking now, but there are surely more... Pretty much any rap artist goes on the list. Not all of them, but anyone you're gonna hear on pop radio, anyway. I respect the ones who actually have talent even if I don't listen to their music... but people like Chingy... WTF?! No. No. No. I don't even know where to begin.

I just keep giggling thinking about the whole thing. The audience was cracking up.. Anyway, I want to comment that I didn't mention Hilary originally but I DEFINITELY share the heebeegeebies for her and her music. Gag. My daughter (who's 9) DOES have the disc (Metamorphasis)... she picked it out with some of her Christmas money. Whatever, it's her choice and I can't control what she likes and doesn't. She played it a few times, sang along and enjoyed herself. (while Sean and I tried to not listen....). Then a funny thing happened. All of a sudden about 2 months ago she told me that she wants to start collecting her own cds of the ones Sean and I own that she loves to listen to... all the Tori cds, some Aimee Mann and several others... So she and I started shopping for gently-used copies and we are slowly adding to her collection. So far, she has her own Little Earthquakes, Boys For Pele, FTCH, and Strange Little Girls (her favorite). I don't think she's listened to Hilary for several weeks now. And if by some weird chance that Hilary cd should happen to mysteriously disappear from her room, well, don't look at me. LOL (kidding, I wouldn't do that!) She likes to fall asleep listening to music on her stereo. We have a night-time routine that involves me climbing into bed with her for a couple minutes and rubbing her back and chatting about her day. Well, the past few nights I've walked into her dark room to hear "Happiness Is A Warm Gun". LOL Oh, dear... she knows I'm not too fond of that song.... But what really gets me is that she LOVES Bonnie and Clyde. Bah! Sean thinks it's pretty funny. I know the age thing is an issue, but she's grown up with Tori's music and she's actually already PASSED the age of figuring out what some of the more controversial lyrics mean. She's been pouring over Tori's lyrics in the cd booklets since she was about 6. And I can just tell she 'gets' Tori's music the way that I have. I'm glad about that. Sean and I also think it's interesting that Ali is a songwriter and much of her own lyrics are very deep and personal. She's not afraid to write about sadness or death or the earth being trampled... and to ask questions about those things. I can't help but think that Tori's music has influenced her in that regard. I'd much rather her feel moved to write about those deep real-life things than about 'what cute pants should I wear to the dance' or such silly things! So, anyway............

Mary, That's wonderful for Ali. One of the things I loved to do growing up was sleep with my boombox, sometimes literally in my bed. It calmed me.
