Is anybody else planning on picking up Shakira's new album when it comes out? It's going to be released sometime in June. I really like the new single, which is playing right now Of course, I'd prefer her singing alone, but meh. You do with what you have eh? NP: Shakira - La Tortura (feat Alejandro Sanz)[/b]

I just downloaded the song last night and am gonna listen to it in a few minutes. Friends of mine have already heard it and say it's pretty good, let's see. I'm really glad she's back to making music in Spanish, I was afraid she was gonna go on and on making shit albums in English and sink her carreer like Ricky Martin did. Not that he was ever good in Spanish, but he was certainly more popular. Now he makes a living serving as C&A's poster boy...

Have you seen the video for the new single! I felt like I needed a cigarette after watching it.

lol, miranda, is that a good thing?
i don't like the video (nor the song, sorry jay) at all. what's with the dirt? does dirt make women look sexier? i don't think so... shakira looks extremely cheap. i mean, she's not britney!

So I just listened to it a couple days ago... Horrible, horrible stuff!!! When did Hispanic people forget how to sing? Alejandro Sanz does nothing but scream uninteligible moans the entire time and Shakira sounds like she's regurgitating her lunch while trying to muster up a couple words in the meantime. And seriously, the song has no melody, no music... it's just noise. Worst Shakira song I have ever heard in my entire life.

I dunno, I wasn't so hooked on it at first either, but it definitely grew on me. I think it's quite catchy. Miranda, I want to see that now! And wait, is the "cigarette after sex" thing universal? I thought it was... but anyway I think that's what she's implying, Matzy

now, nobody called me "matzy" in a long time... and yeah, the cigarette after sex is universal... but i was just wondering since i find the video pretty unsexy...

I don't like Shakira at all, but I definitly like Alejandro Sanz (music) so even if it is a shitty song, I don't care cause it's Shakira's.

I agree, Paulo. La Tortura is crap. Actually, I'm starting to like the remix of it that's at the end of the album.
Anyway, BUY THE ALBUM! I love it. Granted, it hasn't gotten as much stereo time as it normally would due to the new White Stripes album. There are a lot of PRETTY songs on Fijacion Oral. If you're disappointed in La Tortura, don't let that keep you from buying the album.

I thought the album came out next week, imagine how happy I was to see it in the store today!
Haven't listened to it much yet though. I'll post some proper thoughts on it when I've had the time to digest it.

Thought 1: No[/b] is... amazing. I can't get past it. I'll let you know what I think of the rest of the album in, like, a year when I stop listening to this one.

Jason, do you think Shakira sounds at all like Gwen Stefani on "Escondite Ingles"?

Hmm, I don't really hear it in the voice, persay, but I think it'd be hard for me to hear anything but Shakira in Shakira's voice. However I totally agree about the song itself sounding very Gwenlike. Definitely.
That's one thing that really struck me about this album - every song is almost done in a different style. The only one so far that's really reminded me of past Shakira has been No[/b] (well, and La Pared - Acoustic[/b], but only that version). Every song seems to have its own sonic map (sorry, I'm reading too much Piece By Piece lately...)

For anyone who is considering buying Volume 2:
Don't bother. (Ha! That's the title of one of her songs!)
Save your money or buy another album.
