Thursday was a bad day for me. Dead sick and in bed watching the snow fly. Not only would I not get to Regis & Kelly, I was in no shape to stand around for a M&G. I watched the snow fly and wondered if the M&G would get cancelled as it had for the previous two shows. (It had.) But still had to go to the show so crawled out just in time to make it there with my friend.
(#27) I found that each night of this stint had at least one song with great personal meaning to me. The magic of the shows was undeniable. Tori announced early on that they were the house band for three nights and would be taking requests for Saturday night. Not too much commentary otherwise. “Honey” was a good surprise and “Take to the Sky” seems to get better and better. Her Carole King intro to this is an innovative addition. My friend had really wanted to hear “Winter” and I was worried that it would not happen in NYC. Well, she took care of that at the start of the Café. The “Scary Ladies” improv was confusing to me. While “Winter” was playing, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if she went right into ‘Icicle’?” (Another one I really wanted to hear.) She has just gotta stop reading my mind! She blew me away with the flowing melody. “Landslide” helped to keep the snow theme going to finish off the Café, again incredible version. Well, that would do it then. The rest of the concert flew by. “Spark” came out as well, “Rattlesnakes” beauty shone, and rock down the house to “Precious Things” (well, I always do on that one). Encores good as well. Jon and Matt have rehearsed a great funky intro to Talula. Good concert but the best was yet to come.
