Feeling MUCH better in the morning so I rolled out of bed easily. Before heading to RCMH, I had to spend some time at Ground Zero, my first time there. Sobering. Then made it to the north side of RCMH (51st) to find the first set of die-hards (at about 10:45 AM). Mike and Maria had been there since 7 AM. Steph from California was freezing her butt off. Also there was Barbara, Molly, and David. They had the blanket set up. I offered the foot warmers I had bought and Mike and Steph took me up on those. No-one wanted the down sweater; guess it was just not ‘cool’ looking. (Who cares? It keeps you warm.) A pretty lively group considering the extreme cold. It made us nervous since Joel had been heard to say that anything below 40 and windy would cancel and the previous three had been cancelled. Temps were only supposed to get up to upper 30s. Yikes! Atlantic Records has an office just across the street so we joined together for a group finger pose. (Yeah, screw you Atlantic!!) Somewhere along here, Audrey joined us. When we found out that she was the creator of Hereinmyhead.com, we all started bowing and chanting, a god was in our midst! Really, what a great thing she does for all of us Toriphiles, wanting to hear the latest and greatest MP3s! Eventually, the security guy for RCMH came by to cordon us off from sidewalk traffic without officially setting up the barricades. Then came Patrick! He wasn’t guaranteeing anything but it looked good. Tori wanted to stop by. He then set up the barricades with the usual herding backwards of the cattle. We then formed under his direction and I ended up in second row. Seth from Maine was right behind me. Maria, Molly, Barbara, Steph, and Mike were right up front so I felt good that they got what they deserved for all their steadfast wait time. Samantha traded places with Jessica, so she was right behind me.
Pat came back and stood up on the pedestal. He had some good news and some bad news. What did we want to hear first? We reluctantly said “the bad news.” Well, there was no bad news; Tori was coming! YAY!! He also explained that only the people up in the front would really get to see Tori, not the people along the side. This wasn’t the TODAY show, to which I laughed. “Wasn’t that funny?” No, was the reply, we’re cold. (Well, I thought it was funny.) She showed up at around 3 and stayed for about a half-hour. We were so fortunate. Seth got named Sparkle by her. I got my poster signed but did not talk as much (although I always want to say lots and lots). She spent a lot of time talking to Jessica, David, and Maria, obviously well-known to her. At one point, Joel said “no photos” to which Tori quietly said back to him, “No, ones for everyone in front.” She recommended books to Jessica which David would help her out on. I got some great shots of her with Molly and Barbara. Karolyn had showed up late but Mike, her brother, got her up close, which was cool. I continue to be in awe of all the great things she says and the intensity at which she keeps her attention focused on only that one person. What a great M&G!!
