(#38) Yes, it is good to have power back. Tori seemed delighted with it, or so she said during the improv. And we were happy to have her back.
Too many shows, so many good impressions, never enough memory to put it all down here in writing. I am having a hard time for my rating system. Some shows are simply beautiful and some can rock your ass off. This show was a rock-your-ass-off show. The newer version of "Upside Down" absolutely kicks butt. Again, I found myself violating the no-dancing rule just to rock to this baby. It made such a strong impression on me that it was in my head when I went to sleep and even next morning on the drive back to Michigan. Jon's bass is real infectious on this one. That was early on in the set. Later, "Professional Widow" rocked my world and, again, I violated the rule. But I think Tori likes us to rock once in a while.
A counterpoint to the rocking was "A Case of You" in the Café. It had been seven years since I had heard it live and still as beautiful as before. And I absolutely adore "Your Cloud." I feel so lucky to have heard her twice within one week!
But for me the real memories of this show were not really the songs. It was the people around me, here and there throughout the "amphitheatre," and the events that led me to my final spot. Being the ticket-snob I had developed into, I was not happy with my 7th row seat, which was on the very right end of the right section. Bleh! No Matt viewing for me. I stood up for Ben Folds, to the side and out of anyone's way. There was a security person near me but they never asked once for me to sit down. I kept on going back for more beer and running into others in the back. Then, before Tori, I sat with some friends who were closer to the middle. Just when "wampum prayer" started coming up, Linda waved me forward to the fourth row, where all these seats behind her were not occupied. I thought to myself, I will just stay here until the real ticketholders throw me back. And they never came!! Tori was right there above me (the stage seemed kind of high, anyone in the front row probably had neck pains after the show) and all was good.
I have high praise for the security and staff of the Tower City Amphitheatre (read LipGlossArsonist's post when you have the chance). However, the venue itself sucks. It is just a flat piece of tarmac with some folding chairs slapped down onto it and a big white tent overhead. How can they call that an amphitheatre? Doesn't that imply sloping downwards? At least the Greeks got it right!
Another great show! Wish you could all be here to experience it!
