Hi all! ;D Just wanted to share my latest Tori experience with you. Jared and I saw Tori at the Molson Amphitheater in Toronto on August 27th, and it was a wonderful time despite the insane day we had leading up to seeing her.
Our day began as we got into the car with a foreigner in the backseat. *Hehe*. My sister¡¦s boyfriend from London, Simon, had been visiting and we were driving him to the Toronto airport so he could go home. *(see more info about Simon below)*. We had a wonderful time chatting and getting to know him better on the drive, and it was horribly sad to see him off at the airport. Jared and I were, however, very psyched for the concert and just wanted to find out way to the venue and grab a bite to eat. Oh, and I had to pee.
We drove the 12 miles mapquest said we had to go, and found ourselves in a lot of traffic. We got quite turned around and a bit lost, and had to backtrack a few times before figuring out that the amphitheater was inside Ontario Place. Stupid, huge, crazy O.P. Basically, there was a huge waterpark, the amphitheater, Cirque du Soleil, a carnival/ amusement park and more behind the gates where we were going. Parking was an absolute nightmare, and after driving around aimlessly for 30 minutes we stopped at a gas station to ask directions. In my rage (hormones have now gone bonkers, because I¡¦m about 7 months pregnant!) I forgot how badly I needed to pee.
We found a space to park in the lot farthest from the venue (almost a mile down the road!) and got out of the car. As soon as I stood up, I realized that I WAS GOING TO PEE MY DARN PANTS if I didn¡¦t find a bathroom SOON!). Unfortunately, there were no toilets anywhere. No public toilets, that is. We stopped at a visitor¡¦s center and I practically begged them, then burst into angry tears and swore and marched out, having been told ¡§You have to use the ones in the amphitheater¡¨. Okay¡Kthat was still a looooong walk away! Poor Jared had to put up with me squeezing his hand like a vise and almost crying the whole way there. Finally we made it into the ¡§park¡¨, and had to ask about 6 different people to direct us to the bathrooms before we finally saw it¡K.the oasis! ƒº As I entered I breathed a sigh of relief¡Kuntil I realized there were about 30 people in line in front of me. A kind older woman pointed at me and said ¡§You go, you¡¦re pregnant¡¨ and I just wanted to hug her so hard! I couldn¡¦t see anything but her eyes, as she was dressed in a long black dress and her face was almost completely covered (a very common sight that day, as it was ¡§Muslim Day¡¨ according to a sign), but her eyes were so kind and she just laughed as I said very loudly ¡§Thank God!¡¨ when a stall became free. In fact, about 10 other people chuckled at me as well! I practically bounced outside to Jared, feeling Oh-So-Ready for Tori, and we got pizza and started walking. People were lined up already, and we became the 3rd group of people in line (yay!). No M&G, but still fun to hang with Tori peeps.
After about 40 minutes I started to get woozy (I have really low blood pressure) so I sat on the ground. Then it started raining. And raining. And raining. Then it started pouring¡K.cats and dogs, people! I stood up because I was in a puddle, and immediately fell over, almost passing out. Jared held onto me, and we waiting for another 5 minutes. But then I just couldn¡¦t stand it anymore. I had to eat, sit down, and get out of the rain. There was only 2 minutes left until they let us in, but the world started spinning and little dots started appearing before my eyes, so Jared grabbed me and we walked out of line. As we walked I became more and more nauseated, and we ended up running to the bathroom where I waiting in line¡Kagain¡K(no kind woman this time) and collapsed on the seat shaking. I think I moaned a bit, because someone asked me if I was alright. Hehe¡K¡¨ Yeah, just going into labor!¡¨ I almost shouted. We got some ice cream, and headed back to the amphitheater 10 minutes later.
After fighting our way through the smoking crowd we found our seats and discovered that we were right behind the wheelchair ramps. I figured it wouldn¡¦t be an issue¡Kyeah right. (More about that later). The opening opening band, The Lake, started playing and it was so horribly loud that Emma started kicking and punching me like crazy and I instantly felt like¡KTHE¡KWORST¡KMOTHER¡KEVER. I started crying and jumped out of my seat and Jared ran after and we got outside into the pouring rain and I told him I just couldn¡¦t stay in there with the noise¡KEmma hated it so much. He held me (it was freezing out and my sweater was soaked and freezing cold) and we walked around wondering if we should just leave. I really wanted to see The Ditty Bops (having discovered them online a few months back and liking them) and of course I would be heartbroken to miss Tori! So after almost leaving, we stuck it out and sat back down when The Lake was finished. Good thing we did, because The Ditty Bops were MUCH quieter and Emma didn¡¦t freak out at all.
If you haven¡¦t heard The Ditty Bops, I suggest you go to their website (www.thedittybops.com) and check them out. The girls¡¦ voices are truly spectacular, and the music is funky¡Ka bit too strange for Jared¡¦s taste but I enjoyed them. The one girl (can¡¦t remember which one goes with which name) was very¡K.dramatic. An actress you might say. The songs were fun and put me in a better mood, as I was freezing, dripping wet, still feeling sick, and it was still raining.
When TDB¡¦s were done we ran to the bathroom, got a hot pretzel, and settled down for the magic to begin. The woman in front of us (pretty huge woman in a pretty huge wheelchair) needed to get out, so we had to move down the stairs while she did. No big deal. When she returned she said ¡§You are really going to hate me in the next hour!¡¨ We smiled and said ¡§No problem, really¡¨, like the polite people our parents raised us to be. If I had known that she would get up 7 MORE DAMN TIMES, ALL DURING THE BEST TORI SONGS EVER, I would have punched her out right then and there! I swear, the woman was drinking so much beer, I just wanted to scream ¡§STOP DRINKING AND PEEING, YOU MORON!¡¨ But¡Kwell, I didn¡¦t know if she had a problem that needed to be taken care of. I remained polite until the damn woman motorized her way through and RAN OVER MY TOES! I almost fell backwards, which would have been terrible because¡Kduh! I¡¦m pregnant. She didn¡¦t apologize, just backed up more and ran into Jared¡¦s knee. *grrrrrr* I really think she was a bit drunk. Or a LOT drunk.
But onto more important things¡K.THE SHOW!
Tori came out in this gorgeous pink/peach long dress, her hair flowing all the way down her back. (Jared and I couldn¡¦t believe how long it got since February ¡V extensions? No way). She didn¡¦t really talk much at all, but went directly into Original Sinsuality (wonderful, of course). The set list was just amazing, as I hadn¡¦t ever heard her do much from BFP live before, and Putting the Damage On was just¡K..oh god so good. I found myself really missing the boys during songs from TBK, but was just so pleased to see her again that it didn¡¦t matter much.
One thing that really stood out to me was Tori¡¦s mood that night. She seemed quiet, pensive. She didn¡¦t interact with the audience that much (it was a huge audience!) or tell the funny stories I¡¦m used to hearing. But she did speak to us a bit. I wondered if maybe she¡¦d had a rough day. The set list seemed to be chosen just for the rainy night, and many of the songs made me want to cry (The Beekeeper, Putting the Damage On, Baker Baker, Northern Lad). Before the concert I decided that I desperately needed to hear The Beekeeper and Jamaica Inn, and when she played them I just about died. When she started The Beekeeper, I just grabbed onto Jared¡¦s leg and squeezed and started to cry. I was feeling so¡K.strange¡K.just can¡¦t explain it.
Tori¡¦s Piano Bar was amazing¡Kshe played Joni! Ah! I just sat there and let it wash over me.
During the last song I was feeling sad, like Tori was so far away¡Kand then fireworks went off to the left of the stage! It was so magical ¡V Tori gave a little smile and nod, and everything seemed right again. I desperately wanted to rush the stage, throw my arms around her and say ¡§Thank you for making us pregnant!¡¨ (a whole other story), but instead we filed out and I braved the bathroom again (slippery floors + treadles flip flops + clumsy, huge me = many slips and trips that night!). When I came out Jared said ¡§Do you think they have an ATM here?¡¨ I said, ¡§Why?¡¨ thinking ¡¥We have money¡Kwe didn¡¦t spend any!¡¦ But then Jared produced a bag from behind his back and said, with the biggest grin on his face, ¡§Because I bought you a shirt!!¡¨. The Mother Revolution shirt! Yay! I pointed out the typo of Marys of the Sea to him and he thought I was very very sharp and clever (I told him it was all Mary, and he said ¡§Figures! She doesn¡¦t miss a thing!¡¨).
On the way out we had to go through that turny-thing with bars so you couldn¡¦t get back in, and as I was going through some drunken a-holes said ¡§Let¡¦s get her stuck in there!¡¨ I turned around and said ¡§Oh, you a-holes are so f-ing funny, aren¡¦t you? Get the pregnant woman stuck? F off, losers!¡¨ I couldn¡¦t believe I had said that out loud, and neither could Jared. He just glared at them and we started the looooong walk back, me still in a Tori daze and wanting very badly to put on my shirt. After walking a bit my feet hurt really bad, and on inspection I realized that I had big blisters where the flippy-flops hit my toes. Ouch. Jared offered me his socks, and we laughed all the way to the car, imagining me wearing his huge, wet, smelly socks pulled up to my knees with flip flops on. ƒº
We started driving home and just started dreading going back to my parent¡¦s house (we stayed there for a few weeks while our apartment turned into a chemical wasteland and we waited for the other apartment to get new carpet). So we decided to stay overnight at a hotel. Only problem: too expensive in Canada! So we did the only thing we could: left a bogus voicemail on my phone saying ¡§The Tori show ran late, we¡¦re staying overnight in Toronto, don¡¦t worry¡¨ for my family to get when they eventually freaked out with worry, and checked into a hotel 10 minutes from their house! Hahahaha! It was just so nice to have a King-size bed and privacy for the first time in about a month. When we awoke the next morning we were blasted by the TV showing Hurricane Katrina warnings on every channel, and we drove home to my parents house feeling slightly deflated.
It was a great concert. We had a blast while Tori was playing. The rain and craziness was¡Kwell¡Kcrazy, but it was just sooooo good to see her again. She was breathtaking, and sounded wonderful. I hope I can get my computer all hooked up soon so I can post a picture of me in the Mother Revolution shirt!
***About my sister¡¦s b/f Simon:
Simon is 30 (sis Breanna is 21), and is just about the nicest guy you could ever hope to meet. Very polite, very charming (charming really sums it up well!). He has a very polished, smooth British accent (I love accents!) and is just so thoughtful. He has brought my Mom flowers every time he¡¦s visited! So sweet!
Simon is in the British military and has worked as an assistant to various Generals over the past few years. He has recently returned from Bosnia and might be sent to Afghanistan soon, but we¡¦re not really sure what it is he does. He can¡¦t talk about it very much because it¡¦s all classified, seeing as how he works closely with those at ¡§the top¡¨. I asked him if he enjoyed his work and he spoke so highly of it, saying that he¡¦s learning so much and it¡¦s a great life experience, and that it¡¦s so challenging that every day is a new adventure. So nice to hear someone who truly enjoys their life, you know?
Simon is a wonderful influence on the spoiled, bratty, immature side of my sister. She¡¦s considering teaching in London when she graduates, and I think he might be ¡§the one¡¨. It¡¦s all very romantic, this international love affair of theirs, and the entire family has been charmed by Simon. Bre says his family is wonderful and they seem to like her a lot as well. Keep your fingers crossed that she takes her time with this relationship¡Kbut it wouldn¡¦t be a bad thing if this were permanent!
Okay¡Kthat¡¦s all from here! Hope everyone in the states had a lovely Labor Day!
Love,
Kier (& a very bouncy, kicking Emma!)
