Hey everybody!
I think that every bookworm here wishes for or receives books for Christmas. I'm looking forward to hearing about the books you get as gifts! When you are done with them, do not hesitate to post a thread to warn others never to read that book or recommend it to all.
In the meantime, if you wish, you can post here your book wishlist!
I can only think of one book that I really, really want and if I do not get it as a gift I shall buy it myself: it's a Finnish DIY-book with really clear and cool patterns for making your own clothes. It's aimed at young people especially because the trend now in Finland is that people are tired of buying clothes and wearing the same stuff as everybody else, and especially younger people are really interested either in making their own, "trendy" clothes or then fixing their own clothes to look more personal.
I had a look at that book and it looks great. The secret of greatness: all the patterns go from XS size to like XXXL so really everyone can make those clothes.
Yesh.

Good idea. I have also wished books for Christmas, I'm sure I will get some book, maybe more too. ^^ I also bought my friend a book today, for Christmas. She doesn't read much but I had to buy the book for her when I saw it in the bookshop. She's loyal friend of coffee, so I bought her a book about coffee's history.

I didn't get any books, boo. Oh well. I know I'll get myself a post-Christmas book: this cute collection of pictures of Art Nouveau style posters, architecture etc.
How about others, what was your loot?

Nope, no books.
And I'm really not interested in reading any of these books I've got in my room that I haven't read yet. I feel like reading a series or something, but I dunno what. Almost feel like re-reading Harry Potter or HDM - I want something fatasy-like. But don't quite feel like reading those again yet.
It's driving me mad because I really want to read. So I'll just keep reading stuff from Fragile Things until something else comes along (lol not that I'm not enjoying Fragile Things - I just feel like reading an actual novel right now, not short stories).

Aimee, I've been reading this Philip Reeve fantasy series (I have two more still to read) which you might find enjoyable. The main character is a total dork and I hate him, but I think the idea in the books is pretty interesting and it seems to develop more and more as the story progresses. The books are called Mortal Engines, Predator's Gold, Infernal Devices and The Darkling Plains. The basic premise is that the world where everything happens is kind of post-apocalyptic where towns move on wheels, and big towns "eat" smaller ones in order to get material to survive. I guess the book tries to be science fiction, but as it doesn't really explain how the cities work (or it doesn't explain anything technical, really) and it focuses more on the fantastical elements, I'd call it fantasy

They sound really interesting, thanks for that I just looked them up on the auction site I've been buying books from lately, and they only have book two.. but I'll put it on my watchlist. Been talking to my sister this morning and she's going to lend me her Lord Of The Rings books... yeah I still have never read those - shame on me. So am going to give them a go while I'm in such a fantasy book craving mood.

YOU HAVE NOT READ LOTR??? I am truly shocked now! A word of warning. The beginning can be a bit erm... boring. Once you get past that it's all good.
Actually, I just talked with a friend of mine who saw the movies first and I was a bit envious because she got to see the story unfold without any expectations. When I went to see the movies, I was continuously like "Oh, now they're there, so they are soon going to meet that person, wonder how that's done", whereas she could just sit back and enjoy it. She said that in the fighting scene between Gandalf and the balrog she had leaned over to a friend and said "Now that's not a useless dude" and was then really shocked when Gandalf fell! I really wish though that I had been in the movie theater where my boyfriend saw the movie. Someone in the audience actually gasped loudly "Gandalf, nooooo!" when the balrog grabbed pulled him down. Hehehhee.

Hehehhee. Hahahaha that's so funny! Thanks for the warning about the beginning, I'll keep that in mind! And it must be quite true, because when I opened the book it was dog-eared at page 41! hehe.. (I HATE that, btw... why can't my sister use a bloody bookmark?! you'd cry if you saw the state of this book - it looks like someone's spilled water on it or something) obviously she gave up at that point. (but then read ROTK before the movie came out - what a weirdo..lol) Oh yeah I never thought about it like that, but now you mention it I think I am glad I hadn't read the books before the movie. I know I would've sat there obsessing over how the next scene would unfold if I already knew where the story was headed. But at the same time I'm glad I'd read The Hobbit before I saw the movies because I had that knowledge of Gollum and where the ring had come from etc. Oooh I can't wait to start reading now! Damn the boring shit I have to get out of the way first before I can relax this afternoon (stupid grocery shopping...).

I HATE that, btw... why can't my sister use a bloody bookmark?! Haha, I hate too dog-earing the books. If I borrow my books to someone I always tell them *not* to dog-ear them. Books are my preciouses.ยจ And I got two books for Christmas: Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries 7 and Kate Mosse's Labyrinth. ^^

I don't like other people dog-earing my books nor do I dog-ear others' books--but I want my own books to look like someone has been reading them. I used to cover the covers of books with this material that makes them look like they've been run through a laminating machine, but then I got tired with how clinical the bookshelf looked. I dog-ear books only if I don't have a bookmark, but I don't worry about it too much Aimee, I now remembered that in one thread (and I now can't find where) you asked about the Golden Compass movie. I had heard some rumors of it and yay, it now really looks like they are going to make it! I think Nicole Kidman is kind of what I imagined Mrs. Coulter to look like--I mean, when Nicole is doing an evil face, hehe. Daniel Craig I did not imagine as Asriel, but we'll see how it goes. I just hope they won't cast some known face to be Lyra. I think with film versions of books it's really important that characters are played by actors who are not known to the audience already, otherwise it's like "OMIGOD it's John Malcovich as FRODO! " And then you just watch Malcovich being Frodo instead of seeing just the character.

Jenni, I've seen a bunch of photos and stuff on another forum. I'll go find them and post them on our HDM thread Oh, btw - I'd already seen Elijah Wood in a fair amount of movies but it was mostly him as a kid, so it didn't seem too bizarre to see him as Frodo, which was great. ROFL @ John Malkovich as Frodo.. oh can you imagine that?? Nattie, I knoooooow... I suck! Am up to the bit where they've just arrived at Frodo's new house.
